Tyson Stengle signs a new deal with Geelong to remain at the club until the end of 2024.

"Right now, signing a 12-month extension was the right thing for me. However, I see a long football future for myself here at Geelong," he said.

Tyson Stengle becomes the first delisted free agent recruit to become a premiership player and an All-Australian after being part of Geelong's 2022 premiership side.

Stengle booted four goals in front of 100,024 at the MCG from 15 disposals, nine score involvements and four inside 50s to finish third in the Norm Smith Medal.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood is excited about what Tyson Stengle can bring to the Geelong forward line in 2022.

"He has lateral movement that we haven't had in our forward line, probably. He has a goal sense for a young guy, a small guy, that we think will really help us," Selwood said of Stengle.

Cats recruit Tyson Stengle has emerged as a genuine chance to come straight into Chris Scott's round one side.

"Once you've got Tyson's trust, he really opens up and he's a great young man who is still learning his way. He's only 23 years of age and he's gone through a fair bit in his life as well, so to come into a new environment, he's fitted in really well," Cats assistant coach Shaun Grigg said of Stengle.

Stengle and the Crows agreed to part ways in March after a string of off-field incidents.

After parting ways with the Crows in 2021, the 22-year-old has spent the year playing for Woodville-West Torrens, kicking three goals in its recent SANFL premiership. He booted 44 majors across 19 games this season, averaging 14 touches.

"Tyson has shown an ability to play at AFL level, and he had a very successful season in the SANFL. We believe Tyson has the ability to have a long career at AFL level and he is a positive addition to our playing list," general manager of football Simon Lloyd said.

Newly-appointed Cats assistant coach Eddie Betts is tightlipped on Tyson Stengle's potential move to Geelong, but says he has spoken to him.

Stengle lived with the recently retired champion in Adelaide, before Betts and his family moved back to Carlton ahead of the 2020 season.

"I felt really bad because he lived there with me and my wife (Anna) and we were pretty hard on him and kept him on the straight and narrow," Betts said.

"He's 22 so the best footy is ahead of him. I really hope he gets another chance at AFL footy, whether it's here (at Geelong) or somewhere else. My best interests are that Tyson gets back and playing AFL footy. If he comes to Geelong, that would be great."

Geelong confirms its interest in former Adelaide and Richmond small forward Tyson Stengle.

Stengle had his contract terminated by the Crows last year after a series of off-field indiscretions, but starred for Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL in 2021.

The 22-year-old has attracted the attention of multiple AFL clubs and is a cousin of retired champion Eddie Betts, who is joining the Cats in a development role.

"We do have some interest in Tyson. We haven't committed to him yet, it's not just us who want him. He'll have to make that decision himself," Geelong list manager Stephen Wells told SEN.

Adelaide officially parts ways with Tyson Stengle after reaching a confidential settlement in which the 22-year-old, who was contracted until the end of 2022, departs the club after three recent off-field indiscretions.

"We put forward a proposal that he would remain on our list for the balance of his contract But we deemed it appropriate that he did that outside of the (AFL) football program in 2021 and he play in the SANFL," Adelaide's head of football Adam Kelly said.

"Tyson, as is his right, he wasn't accepting of that. And because the two parties were unable to reach an agreement on that, we have decided to part ways."

The Crows stood down Stengle from all AFL duties last December as they investigate a photo purported to show the 22-year-old with drugs.

"The club is working closely with the AFL and AFL Players Association as well as Stengle's management in relation to this matter."

Adelaide pair Brad Crouch and Tyson Stengle are suspended by the AFL after being caught by police with an illicit substance.

"The AFL investigated the matter and has determined Stengle will be suspended for the first four matches of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, while Crouch will be suspended for the first two matches," the League said in a statement.

"Both players will be required to attend a Drug and Alcohol Education Course prior to the commencement of the 2021 Season; and both players? conduct constitutes a notifiable adverse finding under the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy."

Adelaide is investigating an incident involving Brad Crouch and Tyson Stengle. The pair were reportedly stopped by police in the early hours of Monday morning allegedly in possession of an illicit substance.

"What is absolutely clear is that all players across the League are well educated about drug use and relevant policies. As an organisation, we take a very strong stance against any behaviour of this kind," Adelaide football boss Adam Kelly said.

"The wellbeing of Brad and Tyson is also paramount and we will make sure they receive appropriate support."

Tyson Stengle signs a two-year contract extension to remain with the Crows until the end of 2022.

“Tyson has showed he has the talent to play at the highest level and he will be an important part of our forward structure as we continue to develop our list," Adelaide list manager Justin Reid said.

“He always looks dangerous around goals, particularly at ground level, and the defensive pressure he brings inside forward 50 is exactly what we want from him each week.”

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks explains why the club did not publicly release details of Tyson Stengle's recent drink-driving charge until eight days later.

"In hindsight, you look back, could we have come out with a short statement (when initially told). We didn't have a lot of information early and that is why we didn't," Nicks said.

"But I totally understand why there has been a lot of questions asked about that. It was nothing more than making sure we got the detail right before coming out. And that was all about looking after our player and that's what we're about and we'll be like that going forward."

Tyson Stengle is suspended for four AFL matches and fined $2500 by the club after being caught drink-driving in an unregistered vehicle on April 9.

Stengle's fine will be donated to charity, while he will also be forced to undertake a road safety education program.

"I know that I have let a lot of people down and I want to apologise for what were some poor decisions," Stengle said in a statement.

"I am determined to win back the trust of my teammates and coaches and that starts with focusing on my training and working hard."

Tyson Stengle is charged with drink driving and driving an unregistered vehicle after being pulled over by police and recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

"Tyson is deeply remorseful and embarrassed by his actions, and we have expressed our disappointment in his decision making," Crows head of football Adam Kelly said.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt and he will receive appropriate education so he learns from this mistake. Tyson is a valued member of the Crows family and we will continue to support him through this difficult period."

Tyson Stengle will follow family tradition and inherit the No.18 Crows jumper that's been left vacant by his cousin Eddie Betts, who joined the Blues during the recent trade period.

Another of Betts' relatives, former defender Graham Johncock, wore the No.18 jumper for the Crows for 227 games between 2002 and 2013.

"Tyson Stengle (will be) jumping into the No.18," Betts told radio station FIVEaa.

"We want to keep the number in the family because Graham Johncock … is a Betts, I'm a Betts and Tyson Stengle is a Betts as well, so it's true family ties."

Richmond trade Tyson Stengle to Adelaide in exchange for pick No.68.

Adelaide acquired pick No.68 from Gold Coast in exchange for a future fourth-round selection.

"Tyson adds a bit of speed and goal sense and complements what our other forwards already offer," Crows list manager Justin Reid said.

Tyson Stengle is on the radar of clubs as a trade target, with the out-of-contract Tiger weighing up his future.

Stengle was drafted by the Tigers as a rookie at the end of 2016 from South Australia and played two senior games last year.

However, he couldn't break into their line-up this year despite kicking 33 goals from 19 games at VFL level.
