Lukas Webb Biography

Tuesday, 12 November 2019
Former Bulldog Lukas Webb is eyeing a second AFL chance with Carlton.

The 23-year-old midfielder has accepted an offer to train with the Blues leading up to the national, pre-season and rookie drafts.

Webb fractured his neck in a VFL game mid-2018 – but didn't find out until after playing the match out – then suffered a broken fibula and syndesmosis damage to an ankle at training this year.

He missed almost three months with that latest setback but returned late in the season to win 30 or more disposals three times in his last five appearances.

However, the Bulldogs parted ways with Webb after 24 games in five seasons.

The Bulldogs delist Fletcher Roberts and Lukas Webb.

"We thank Fletcher and Lukas for their contributions at our football club," Bulldogs list manager Sam Power said.

"Both were part of team success in 2016, with Fletcher an important member of our AFL premiership side and Lukas among the best performers in Footscray’s VFL triumph.

"They have been well-respected members of our playing group and we wish them all the best for the future."

Thursday, 30 May 2019
Lukas Webb's season is in jeopardy after breaking his leg at training on Thursday.

Having recently recovered from a serious neck injury sustained last year, the 23-year-old will go under the knife after fracturing his fibula and suffering syndesmosis damage to his ankle.

Monday, 21 January 2019
Lukas Webb is free of the neck brace that he has been forced to wear for the last six months and will soon resume the process of returning to full football activity.

"It's really exciting for Lukas, after being in the hard collar for the last six months," Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell said.

"Now we're able to put a plan around his return to football, and at this stage, it looks like that'll happen in the next six to eight weeks."

Tuesday, 20 November 2018
Lukas Webb still remains in a neck brace after sustaining a vertebrate injury in the VFL back in August.

It still remains unclear when the 22-year-old will be permitted to return to full training.

"Lukas sustained a really rare compression injury to one of the vertebrae in his upper back, but he's back doing some low-level running," Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell said.

Tuesday, 17 July 2018
Lukas Webb will miss the remainder of the 2018 season after sustaining a serious neck injury in the VFL at the weekend.

The 22-year-old was sent for scans after playing out the game for Footscray against Casey at Casey Fields, and the results came back worse than expected.

"(The injury) is to the neck, so with the neck and the back, it's just that spinal risk," Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said.

"He sustained an injury during the game and the scans have shown it's a bit more serious than we thought it would be, so we'll take really cautious steps with him."

Friday, 1 September 2017
Lukas Webb signs a new two-year deal with the Bulldogs.

In a VFL season where he is averaging nearly 25 possessions a game and kicked 15 goals, Webb has continued to improve his ability to win the contested ball after arriving at the club as a flanker.

Monday, 8 August 2016
Josh Dunkley is the round 20 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee after collecting 19 disposals, including 3 clearances, in the Bulldogs' 14-point over North Melbourne.

Dunkley said playing alongside childhood friend Lukas Webb for the first time at AFL level was a special moment for him.

"It was pretty special running out for our first AFL game. We've been mates for a long time so it was pretty awesome having him alongside me in the change rooms," Dunkley said.

"We gave each other a massive hug and it was all smiles in the rooms after the game."

Dunkley and Webb are old high school friends, having attended Gippsland Grammar in Sale together before Webb moved to Caulfield Grammar in Melbourne in year 11.

"We'd played a lot of footy over the journey so we built that relationship straight away. I don't know how it really happened – two boys met, I suppose. And we've kept in contact ever since," Dunkley said.

"To end up at the same club is amazing. We sit next to each other in the locker room, as well.

"It's a bit surreal, it's a like a fairytale really."

Saturday, 9 May 2015
Lukas Webb says he has been looking to skipper Robert Murphy for guidance as a member of the Bulldogs' backline in 2015.

"He's a perfect role model, but he's pretty hard to play like and I take in everything I can off him," Webb said.

"Some people say I'm too left-sided, but I've been working on my right foot, which I'm trying to get in to my game.

"He's one of the best (dual-sided players) in the competition and he tells me to make sure I can use both sides because it opens up so many opportunities."

Sunday, 19 April 2015
Lukas Webb makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs with 10 disposals (8 kicks and 2 handballs), 3 marks and a tackle in a 70-point loss to Hawthorn.
Friday, 28 November 2014
The Western Bulldogs select Lukas Webb with pick No.27 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"His skills and left foot kick are outstanding," Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said.

"He has great agility and has the ability to play a few different positions as well so we're really happy with Lukas."
