Will McLachlan requests a trade to Melbourne after meeting with the Demons and Essendon earlier this week, while the Lions have also been keen to hold onto him.

McLachlan made his AFL debut in 2025, having been picked mid-year the previous season, and played six games before featuring only once this year in Brisbane's premiership run.

But he showed he was a level above the VFL, having booted 35 goals in 11 games for the Lions' VFL side, including a haul of eight against North Melbourne.

"He has no issues with the club, the city of Brisbane, homesickness, any of that. It's just opportunity for him," Lions list boss Dom Ambrogio said.

"We think he's on a similar trajectory to Kai Lohmann, who played eight games in his first two years; Will's played seven. They have similar traits - quick, exciting, high-flying country boys, bring a heap of energy and excitement, one's a left-footer, one's a right-footer. We've been desperate to retain Will.

"He's just been at our club when there's been a bit of a queue in front of him. We rate him really highly. We don't intend to give him up lightly."

Kai Lohmann signs a two-year contract extension with Brisbane, committing to the club until at least 2027, and says his goal celebrations are here to stay.

"Expect a bit this year," Kai Lohmann said of his celebrations.

"I'll probably have them over the next few years. Charlie (Cameron) is always sending me TikToks of dances and things, so I'm excited for when I kick a goal."

Kai Lohmann is the round 2024 10 AFL Rising Star nominee after a five-goal haul in the Lions' 119-point demolition of Richmond at the Gabba.

In addition to his equal-team high bag of five, Lohmann hauled in seven marks, was involved in nine scores, had two clearances and 14 touches in what was undoubtedly the best outing of his blossoming career.

Draft Report: Lohmann screams X-Factor with his vertical leap, speed (recording an elite 2.986-second 20m sprint at the national combine) and agility combination, allowing him to be a dangerous threat aerially and at ground level. His spring and overhead marking means he plays taller than his height, while he has shown the ability to turn defenders inside out on his way to goal. The exciting forward had a patchy season overall but it is these exciting traits and his upside that could see him off the board as early as the second round. Club interest has been significant for Lohmann, one of the most interviewed Vic Country prospects throughout the year - and he has been described as a loveable larrikin off the field.
