Tyler Brockman will remain sidelined through the early rounds of the season as he awaits a court hearing next month and recovers from minor surgery.

Brockman is facing a single count of grievous bodily harm after an incident in Geraldton last December and was due to face court this month before his lawyer requested more time to look at relevant material.

"The West Coast Eagles confirm AFL player Tyler Brockman has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm by WA Police following an incident in Geraldton in December," a statement by West Coast read.

"Brockman is due to appear before the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 19. The club has made the AFL aware of the charge and is unable to make any further comment as the matter is before the courts."

Tyler Brockman is fined $1400 by the Geraldton Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to a series of traffic offences.

Brockman fled the scene of a car crash in early May while in Geraldton to attend a family funeral.

The former Hawk was alleged to have crashed into a light post before fleeing on foot in the early hours of the morning on May 4, returning later to retrieve the vehicle.

Brockman pleaded guilty to careless driving, failing to report an accident to police, and failing to stop after an accident with property damage.

Tyler Brockman will participate in a wellbeing and education program within the club as he strives to resume his career at the Eagles after being charged in relation to a car crash in WA's mid-west.

"I would like to apologise for my actions. I accept I have to make some changes to meet AFL standards on and off the field," Brockman said.

"I look forward to working on the things I need to so I can return to playing football."

Tyler Brockman will seek a trade back to Western Australia after three years with the Hawks.
