Lachlan Ash Biography

Lachie Ash says his strong start to the 2025 AFL season was sparked by his frustration with his performance in the previous year and a determination to improve.

"I'm reasonably happy. I had a below average or a poor year last year by my own standards," Ash said.

"We had six months of the summer time to let that sit in the stomach and then get the chance to let go of the anger a little bit, let a bit of the frustration out. I wanted to have a consistent pre-season, and I feel like I've started well and hit the ground running."

After being dropped mid-season, Lachie Ash has embraced his new role as the Giants' midfield stopper.

"It was a shock when Leon called me in a couple of days before the Essendon game and said, 'We're thinking about playing you on Darcy Parish, what do you think?'," Ash said.

"He told me they liked my defensive mindset and that I'd continued to show that in the reserves.

"We've talked about me wanting to play onball in the next couple of years and Leon said this is a way to have a crack now. I just jumped at the opportunity."

Lachie Ash admits to struggling with life in the hub with the Giants in his debut year of 2020.

"After three or four weeks, being a kid from the country I'd never been locked up that much. It probably started to take its toll on me and by the end I was over it. You just couldn't get away from the game," he said.

"Coming from the farm I've always had stuff to do. I had to learn (ways to cope) and it took a toll on me. It fried my brain a bit."

Lachlan Ash makes his AFL debut for GWS at Docklands Stadium with 7 disposals (5 kicks and 2 handballs) and 3 marks in a 24-point loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Draft prospect Lachie Ash says it would be a dream scenario to join Greater Western Sydney and learn off his favourite player, Lachie Whitfield.

"(Whitfield) is my favourite player," Ash said on the eve of the 2019 AFL Draft.

"It'd be good to get up there and learn off him and how he does it. It'd be good to try and get in his pocket and learn as much as I can from him."
