Fischer McAsey Biography

Monday, 9 January 2023
Fischer McAsey walks away from the Crows and his AFL career, citing a loss of passion to play the game at the highest level.

"Unfortunately, I have lost a lot of the enjoyment and desire to improve which is required to make it at the top level," McAsey said.

"It has been an extremely difficult decision to come to, and one that I haven't taken lightly, but through discussions with close friends and family, the club and my management, I feel that it is the right decision for my long-term future and well-being.

"I am very grateful to the club for their support and allowing me some time to reflect on where I want to be moving forward."

Sunday, 20 November 2022
Fischer McAsey is granted personal leave and won't return to the Crows until after Christmas.

"We are fully supportive of Fischer taking personal leave and we will give him the time and space that he requires," Crows head of football, Adam Kelly said.

"We will remain in regular communication with him, as well as his management, to ensure he has ongoing support while away from the Club.

Fischer McAsey is expected to return to full training in six weeks after being sidelined by a stress fracture in his right leg. The 20-year-old reported groin tightness and leg pain last week and scans revealed an early stress fracture in his femur.

"Thankfully it has been detected early and Fischer is in a good position to allow it to heal and return to training as soon as possible," Adelaide high performance manager Darren Burgess said.

Thursday, 29 April 2021
Fischer McAsey resists the lure of returning to Victoria and signs a new deal with Adelaide to remain at the club until the end of the 2023 season.

"I'm excited by what we're building at Adelaide. My faith in the club has never wavered and I have enjoyed settling into Adelaide over the first two years," McAsey said.

"We have a great group of young players who are coming through together and we are driving each other to get better."

Friday, 10 July 2020
Adelaide will trial Fischer McAsey forward this weekend against West Coast.

McAsey has so far been asked to fill a sizeable defensive role in Adelaide's winless start to the year, with the Crows backline under siege for much of the campaign.

"He's had a number of key match-ups and we've been putting our backs under a fair bit of pressure in those early rounds," Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said.

"We felt like a week's rest has freshened him right up. He's had a really good break and now we'll get him back in and let him jump at a few."

Saturday, 21 March 2020
Fischer McAsey makes his AFL debut for Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with 5 disposals (3 kicks and 2 handballs) and a mark in a 3-point loss to Sydney.
Thursday, 31 October 2019
Draft prospect Fischer McAsey has grown up a lifelong Western Bulldogs fan and cites Matthew Boyd as being his inspiration.

"I was a really passionate fan with the Doggies when I was about five years old, and I'd just write letters to players in my spare time," McAsey said.

"I wrote one to Matthew Boyd and he wasn't a [really] popular player at the time and he wrote back and gave me a hat and scarf.

Ever since then we became pen pals and I met him at a few family days and things, which was nice. He did remember me from the letters so it was a good experience as a young kid.

"The impact you can have on young kids [is huge]. They look up to AFL players and he really inspired me, so I'd like to be an inspiration to young kids if I can get onto an AFL list."
