Buku Khamis Biography

Buku Khamis reflects on his failed trade push at the end of 2025.

"It was a very stressful time, just waiting for the phone call from your manager. You've got friends and family as well, curious of what's going on. You're watching the (Deadline Day) show and just waiting for a call from your manager or the footy club," Khamis said.

"But I'm just happy that it's worked out that way it has. Obviously, I was keen for more opportunity at AFL level because I feel like I'm an AFL player and I want to play as much AFL footy as I can. I'm happy that I'm doing that here at the Bulldogs."

Training against young Bulldog Sam Darcy has helped prepare Buku Khamis to face some of the competition's best key forwards.

"He's come along this year and I think he's going to be really hard to stop," Khamis said of Darcy.

"I'm working well with the boys down there, especially Rory and Liam. When it comes to backing my read, I just back it 100 percent and I just play hard. 'Bevo' puts a lot of confidence in me. We all have that license."

Buku Khamis makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium with 11 disposals (7 kicks and 4 handballs), a mark and a tackle in a 16-point win over Carlton.

The Western Bulldogs have snared exciting young talent Buku Khamis as a pre-selected rookie for the 2019 season.

Khamis was allowed clear passage to the Bulldogs as a pre-selected rookie under the rules governing the selection of players who are part of AFL club next generation academies.

Khamis was not selected in the NAB AFL Draft, allowing the Dogs to secure him as a rookie.

“Buku is a fantastic example of the talent in our Next Generation Academy and the development pathway that exists in the AFL," Bulldogs General Manager of List and Recruiting Sam Power said.

“He has worked exceptionally hard to get to where he is and we're confident he’ll be a great acquisition to our Club."
