Thomas Wilkinson Biography

Tuesday, 13 August 2019

Tom Wilkinson quits the AFL to be part of the next season of The Amazing Race Australia with Paul Roos' son Tyler.

Wilkinson played his final game for North's VFL side on Saturday, winning eight disposals and kicking one goal in a 102-point loss to Geelong's reserves at GMHBA Stadium.

It is believed he approached Kangaroos officials in the past fortnight about his TV opportunity, knowing he faced an uphill battle to retain his spot on the list.

North Melbourne select Thomas Wilkinson with pick No.41 in the 2018 Rookie Draft.

“We tracked him through the NEAFL and Matthew Lappin, brother of Jason who works at North, was one of his coaches. Matthew was a massive supporter of his and that helped us form a view on whether to take him,” Kangaroos recruiting manager Mark Finnigan said.

“He’s an elite athlete with particularly elite speed and endurance, and we see him playing that small to medium/forward role for us because he can kick goals, pressure the opposition and run all day.”
