Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks wants to keep a trio of key defenders at his club as rivals circle. But he concedes the Crows face a challenge, with Jordon Butts, James Borlase and Nick Murray all in the sights of opposition clubs.

"All the guys can play. And the challenge we have is fitting them all into the same team on the weekend," Nicks said.

"We'd love to keep all of our key defenders. They've been here now for four or five years, most of them, and it's a strength of ours is having that next guy ready to step up.

"That's the challenge we're going to deal with."

Jordon Butts will miss the Crows' next two games due to concussion.

Butts passed a head injury assessment during the Crows' loss to Geelong, but has since presented with delayed concussion symptoms.

"It is a collapsed lung, so he won't travel (back) with us now, he'll spend the night here with the right people around him to make sure he gets what he needs from this point on," Crows coach Matthew Nicks said after the game.

Tom Lynch is suspended for five matches for a strike against Crow Jordon Butts that the AFL described as a throwback to a "bygone era".

Lynch's strike was graded as severe impact, intentional conduct and high contact by the Match Review Officer.

“Jordon Butts has played a lot of key back as a younger player, and then forward a bit the last two years; probably 50 per cent forward, 50 per cent back," Adelaide recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie said.

“Played really well in the VFL so we’re backing in his high-level 16, 17-year-old form into the end of this year where he played really well. His senior Grand Final for ‘Shepp’ Bears in the Goulburn Valley League was fantastic, kicked the winning goal.

“He’s got a year to really make a name for himself, improve himself and hopefully keep going a bit further than that.”
