St Kilda coach Ross Lyon says losing Nasiah would have been disastrous for the Saints.

"It would have been catastrophic for the overall strategy, because from there it's like 'well, where's our really high-level performer?" Lyon said.

"He's top of the pops at the moment as a 22-year-old. It would mean a re-calibrating of the strategy, I would have thought - how many drafts do you need to go to? How do those free agents, that we're trying to track, look?

"So it was a pivotal piece."

Jack Ross signs a two-year contract extension to remain at Richmond until the end of 2022.

Jack Ross makes his AFL debut for Richmond at Adelaide Oval with 25 disposals (12 kicks and 13 handballs), 4 marks and 5 tackles in a 7-point win over Port Adelaide.

Ross stands 186cm and has plenty of development left in him after having several interrupted pre-seasons.

"He was really excited when we went to his house and spoke to him. We think he's got significant upside," Richmond recruiting manager Matt Clarke said.

"He's obviously had some injuries over the pre-seasons, for the last three or four."
