James Jordon Biography

Saturday, 9 December 2023
Sydney recruit James Jordon bears no resentment towards his former club despite having struggled to find a permanent starting spot at Melbourne.

"I loved it. It was such a great football club with great people there, all the players, all the staff. They're the reason that I've grown as a player and the player that I am today and I'll be forever grateful for them for giving me the opportunity to play AFL football, that's for sure," he said.

"You just want to be playing senior footy every week and I felt earlier in the year I was playing some good footy and I was still in and out a bit or was a sub.

"But that's all about being part of such a good club. The players that they've got in there, it's always going to be competitive for spots and I probably just felt the time was right to take an opportunity for a bit more midfield time."

James Jordon joins Sydney as an unrestricted free agent, with the Demons to receive an end-of-round-two pick as compensation.

"James is a talented young midfielder who we think has a bright future ahead of him," Swans footy boss Charlie Gardiner said.

"We think he will be a valuable addition to our midfield group with his running ability and flexibility to play inside and out."

Unrestricted free agent James Jordon has selected Sydney as his new home for 2024 and beyond.

Under free agency rules, Sydney will be able to sign the 22-year-old without any outlay, as Jordon had been delisted by the Demons and re-signed as a rookie at the end of 2020.

Sunday, 26 September 2021
Melbourne midfielder James Harmes selflessly tried to sub himself off late in the Grand Final win against the Western Bulldogs in order to give teammate James Jordon some game time.

Jordon was the medical sub for the match, and he didn't make it out onto the field in the Demons' 74-point win at Optus Stadium.

But if Harmes had his way, Jordon would have been subbed into the game with about five minutes to go.

"Harmsey was trying to have a little cramp there just so I could get on at the end," Jordon said.

"He was just trying to get me on the ground. There was only five minutes left, but it didn't end up happening."

Jordan Cunico joins the race for the final place on Carlton's list, with the ex-Geelong midfielder invited to train with the club ahead of the 2020 season.

The speedy 23-year-old was delisted by the Cats at the end of 2019, having managed only 15 senior games for the club across five seasons at GMHBA Stadium.

Friday, 23 November 2018
Melbourne select James Jordan with pick No.33 in the 2018 National Draft.

"What attracted us to James was his improvement throughout the year. He didn't have a lot of exposure to TAC Cup level, but when you pour back over the vision you see a player who can play in all areas of the ground," Demons national recruiting manager Jason Taylor said.

Melbourne select James Jordan with pick No.33 in the 2018 National Draft.

“My versatility holds me in good stead I think,” Jordon said.

“I think I play on the inside and the outside both pretty well, as well as I can play forward, backline or in the midfield.

“I feel like I’ve still got a little bit to grow which definitely helps and a bit more development left.”
