Tom Sparrow rejects a lucrative long-term offer from Port Adelaide to sign a five-year deal to remain at Melbourne.

The 26-year-old has averaged 22.5 disposals and 3.7 clearances in 2026 as Melbourne prepares for their finals campaign in 2026.

"Tom has grown into one of the competitions most impactful midfielders, while also establishing himself as a valued leader within the club," Demons list manager Tim Lamb said.

"We look forward to seeing what Tom will continue to bring to the program over the next five years."

Melbourne trio Kysaiah Pickett, Luke Jackson and Tom Sparrow, as well as coach Simon Goodwin, will miss Saturday's clash with Hawthorn after entering the AFL's health and safety protocols due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Adem Yze will take the reins in the coaches' box in place of Goodwin for the match.

"We wanted to address the midfield and we were pretty keen on Tom given that he's a speed and endurance athlete," Demons national recruiting manager Jason Taylor said.

"He's got some real upside in his athleticism … there's a bit of synergy there because the coach (Simon Goodwin) is a South Adelaide boy, so it's a good story for the club."

“It’s a great time, I’m really happy to be a part of the Melbourne Football Club and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it early next week,” Sparrow said.

“There was always an opportunity for me to move interstate … so I was always happy to make the move and I’m really happy Melbourne gave me the opportunity to do so.”
