Joel Amartey suffers a groin injury after being on the verge of making his debut since recovering from a hamstring injury.

"We'd look at Amartey but unfortunately he did a groin on the weekend as well so he's missing for a couple (of weeks)," Swans coach John Longmire said.

"He would have been a real chance of playing this weekend if he had got through last week's hitout."

Wednesday, 11 July 2018
Joel Amartey will remain at Sydney in 2019 after netting himself a one-year contract extension.

"It's a great feeling just knowing the coaching staff are backing me to keep improving and they believe in me and in what I can do on the field," he said.

"That gives me a little more confidence to play the way I play and hopefully we can get some more wins on the board.

"I was pretty surprised with the extension. Getting to the middle of the season I was a bit anxious about what would happen next year. Iím just relieved with the good news."

Sunday, 3 December 2017
The excitement of being drafted to the Swans as a rookie comes just a mere two months after Joel Amartey missed a shot at goal after the siren that would have secured victory in the TAC Cup Grand Final over the Geelong Falcons.

Unfortunately, for Amartey, after taking a strong pack mark at the tip of the goal square, his set shot from 15m out skewed to the right and the Falcons claimed a two-point win.

"He was flat for a few days and kicking himself for the missed opportunity, but I also thought with the support of his teammates and the Falcons players out on the field, and that resilience that he shows, he bounced back pretty well," Dragons talent manager Ryan O'Connor said.

"You can think 'what if' but I think he can now really set his sights on the next chapter at the Swans."
