North Melbourne delists Kyron Hayden but will pick him up again as a rookie in the upcoming draft.

"Kyron has another year left on his contract and nothing will really change for him other than him being listed as a rookie in 2019," North general manager of football Cameron Joyce said.

"It doesn't preclude him from playing senior football and his contract remains as is."

Kyron Hayden will miss up to five months after undergoing right shoulder surgery for a long-term problem.

"It's an injury he's been managing for quite a while. We sought two opinions and both specialists advised the best course of action for Kyron was surgery," Kangaroos' football boss Cameron Joyce said.

"Kyron has spent a lot of time in the gym over the past few years and has an AFL-ready body, which he will be able to use to his advantage.

"At that age, many players don't have the level of muscle development Kyron has, and an injury like this can be a much bigger setback."
