Brent Daniels wants to play as much footy as he can after spending months on the sidelines, but he knows he has to rein in his enthusiasm.

Persistent injuries limited the 27-year-old to just six games last year, leading to abdomen/groin surgery in the off-season.

"I had a fair stint out of the game, which wasn't great, but I'm still working back into it," he said.

"I started the game slow on the weekend and worked into the game nicely, but I'm just happy to be back out there and find some footy again."

Daniels joined the Giants as pick 27 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, and has been a revelation this season, being a Rising Star nominee and playing every game for the year.

His speed and classy finish in the dying minutes last week against Brisbane was the match-winning play in the Giants' victory at the Gabba.

"'Binga' was one of those players you just couldn't not love. He's so exciting and energetic. His highlights package in his draft year was outstanding. It was as good as anyone's," Caruso told the Road to the Draft podcast.

"I still feel we got a little bit lucky that year to get a player who you rate so highly on your talent board, but also who fills the specific one need that we had. We had a pure need for a quick, small forward with skills. We just got lucky."

Brent Daniels, the competition's second-smallest player at 170cm, says his lack of height isn't an impediment.

"I've been told I'm too small. But it hasn't really fazed me too much because I know (my footy's good enough and that height shouldn't matter)," Daniels told AAP.

"The ball is on the ground a lot more than in the air, so I find it an advantage."

Brent Daniels earns a Rising Star nomination in the final round of 2019.

Daniels currently sits equal-third in the AFL for goal assists with 22 highlighting his impressive vision, decision-making and disposal efficiency.

"I haven't kicked as many goals as I would have liked personally but I'm happy to give them off to other boys in better spots, which is probably even better than kicking them yourself," he said.

Daniels finally completed the first full pre-season of his career. The continuity has been invaluable and he hasn't missed a game in 2019.

"I'm much fitter and stronger this year and my confidence has grown as the season has progressed," he said.
