Jackson Edwards Biography

Wednesday, 28 November 2018
Delisted Adelaide rookie Jackson Edwards will work with tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt and Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark Williams in a bid to re-enter the AFL system.

"It's a brave move from a young kid. There wouldn't be too many 19-year-olds who just pick up and move to another state, but he's pretty driven and wants to give himself every chance to get back into the system," Edwards' manager Michael Doughty said.

"'Choco' will be great for Jackson because he has a real rapport with young players and has an ability to get the best out of them.

"Jackson knows he was probably a bit unlucky, but he doesn't blame anyone and knows he's got some work to do and that he's got to get stronger and fill into his body.

"Sometimes you need to go through these moments to see if you've got what it takes to make it."

Adelaide has let go of two father-son selections, with Ben Jarman and Jackson Edwards among three delistings that also included Harry Dear.

"Harry, Jackson and Ben are all quality young men and their commitment during their time at the club has been first-class," Adelaide football manager Brett Burton said.

"On behalf of everyone at the Adelaide Football Club, we wish them all the best in the future. They will always be part of the Crows family."

Jackson Edwards – the son of club great Tyson – will get the honour of wearing the No.19 jumper in 2018 after the club retired the guernsey as part of the the '19th Man' marketing campaign in 2008.

Adelaide CEO Andrew Fagan said the time for a change was right and it was "accentuated by the fact it will be worn by an Edwards, a name synonymous with our club".

Adelaide secures Jackson Edwards, son of Tyson Edwards, as the second father-son selection in the club's history.

After last month committing to taking Edwards as a rookie, the Crows officially secured the eldest son of 300-game champion Tyson.

Edwards slipped through the NAB AFL Draft on Friday night and when all 18 AFL clubs opted not to participate in the pre-season draft, the 18-year-old automatically joined Adelaide’s rookie list.

"It's good to be part of it, just ready to get stuck into it, really," Edwards said.

"The club was pretty clear with me all the way through, I had something to fall back on if it didn't turn out in the draft.

"It was a bit nerve-racking (during the draft), not knowing what was going to happen, but good to be part of it now."

Thursday, 23 November 2017
Port Adelaide will consider taking Adelaide father-son prospect Jackson Edwards in the NAB AFL Draft after the Crows ruled themselves out of selecting Edwards – the son of club great Tyson Edwards – in the national draft.

Adelaide are hoping he slips through to the rookie draft, where they will be able to add him onto their list with their final pick.

"He's had a really good season this year and even last year," Power's national recruiting manager Geoff Parker said.

"He's put together a good resume. I'm sure we're not the only club who has discussed him throughout the draft process."

Tuesday, 31 October 2017
Adelaide admit they are rolling the dice with father/son prospect Jackson Edwards.

After committing using picks 79 and 109 for to upgrade Hugh Greenwood and Alex Keath, the Crows will be left with picks 12 and 39 which are considered too high for Edwards, who is projected to be in the 40-70 range.

If a rival club decides to put in a bid for Edwards, then the Crows will be unable to match it.

The Crows have nominated Edwards – the son of premiership player Tyson – as a father/son selection in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft and will be able to take him automatically as a rookie-listed player.

"There is a little bit of risk there," Crows chief Andrew Fagan said.

"We'll have to stick true to our talent order. Should he be available after the national draft, then we will certainly pick him up."

Monday, 30 October 2017
Adelaide commits to taking potential father/son recruit Jackson Edwards, son of club great Tyson Edwards, at the rookie draft.

"There are no guarantees for us or Jackson, but there is an ongoing commitment between the club and the Edwards family that we will take Jackson in the rookie draft if he is available," Crows list manager Justin Reid said.

Thursday, 9 February 2017
Adelaide will have access to its second father-son prospect in as many years, with the son of premiership star Tyson Edwards up for grabs in the 2017 draft pool.

Jackson Edwards impressed in the latter stages of last season and will play for South Australia this year, with the Crows already involved in the Glenelg prospect's development.

The 17-year-old gathered 19 disposals and kicked a goal in the under-17s NAB All Stars clash at Punt Road Oval on Grand Final morning last year, and showed some of his talents playing against the most highly rated draft hopefuls in the country.
