Richmond has locked away hard-running forward Kane Lambert until the end of 2022, with the premiership star re-signing alongside younger teammates Ryan Garthwaite and Callum Coleman-Jones.

Lambert was due to come out of contract at the end of 2019, but a new three-year deal is just reward for the 27-year-old who has come on in leaps and bounds in recent seasons.

Garthwaite has signed on until 2020, while Coleman-Jones, who is yet to make his debut for Richmond, has recommitted until the end of 2021.

Ryan Garthwaite will remain at Richmond until at least the end of 2019 after having quietly signed a one-year contract extension earlier this year.

"To see young Garthwaite come in, he's a very popular member of our footy club, one for his character but two for his incredible work-rate, the way he approaches his training," Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said after Garthwaite's debut against Geelong.

Ryan Garthwaite was reduced to tears when he received the call from Damien Hardwick that he would be fulfilling a lifelong dream by making his AFL debut against Geelong at the MCG.

"He told me and I tried to keep my emotions together, when you get that it's a dream come true and (I) shed a few tears," Garthwaite said.

"When you start Auskick at the age of six, it's your dream to play AFL football. When that call finally comes, it's like, 'Hang on, it's finally here'."

Ryan Garthwaite makes his AFL debut for Richmond at the MCG with 9 disposals (6 kicks and 3 handballs), 3 marks and 4 tackles in a 18-point win over Geelong.

Richmond select Ryan Garthwaite with pick No.72 in the 2016 National Draft.

"A key defender who can also play on the smalls," Richmond recruiting manager Francis Jackson said.

"Defensively he does a terrific job. He will make the most of the opportunity."
