Hawthorn signs former Western Bulldogs forward Fergus Greene as a delisted free agent.

"Fergus has been in a conservative management model, but unfortunately, we have been unable to improve Fergus' shoulder to a level that will allow him to withstand the demands of AFL footy," Dogs medical services manager Chris Bell said.

"Fergus will need a shoulder operation which will end his 2019 campaign, but he'll be ready to attack next pre-season."

Fergus Greene signs a one-year contract extension to remain at the Bulldogs until the end of 2020.

“Fergus has impressed us over the past couple of years with how his game has developed,” Bulldogs list manager Sam Power said.

“Fergus has good forward craft and knows how to hit the scoreboard, while he’s also a strong overhead mark and a good runner.

“We’re looking forward to watching him improve again this year, and continuing to push to play senior football.”

Billy Gowers has embraced social media where his charismatic and jovial personality is evident.

Two of his recent uploads have involved fellow first-year Bulldogs Ed Richards and Fergus Greene.

Richards took part in a carpool karaoke session as he and Gowers banged out lyrics to Akon's classic hit Smack That.

Gowers also snapped Greene performing an audacious self-choreographed routine following last weekend's thrilling win over North Melbourne.

"Nothing is ever planned with my social media, it just happens when it does," Gowers said.

Unlike many of his Bulldogs teammates, Greene wasn't a highly-decorated junior footballer who was a walk-up start to representative teams.

"We're really excited for Fergus because he's worked really hard and wasn't the typical TAC Cup pathway player," Pioneers talent manager Stephen Sharp said.

"He wasn't involved in our program early and I don't think he was selected in any interleague teams as a junior, so to get where he's got to, I've got to take my hat off to him."

Fergus Greene makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs with 5 disposals (2 kicks and 3 handballs), 2 marks, 5 tackles and a goal in a 44-point loss to Port Adelaide.

The Western Bulldogs select Fergus Greene with pick No.70 in the 2016 National Draft.

"A late developer who ran a 15.0 in the beep test, has a good vertical leap, and is a really good kick," Bulldogs recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple said.

"He's skinny so he'll need some time in the gym, but he comes from a really good footy family and interviewed well."
