Callum Brown opens up on his delisting from Collingwood.

"I went in completely blind (to the exit meeting). It was tough. My manager had spoken to 'Wrighty' [Graham Wright] for a while and they were still umming and ahhing. I hadn't really got an answer yet," he said.

"I walked in and was straight out told I wouldn't be offered a new contract. It was tough, for sure. But it is what it is, you can't do much about it."

Six players in Ireland will return to Australia this weekend to resume their AFL careers after winning visa approval to re-enter the country.

Collingwood pair Mark Keane and Anton Tohill, Essendon duo Cian McBride and Ross McQuillan, Brisbane's James Madden, and Greater Western Sydney's Callum Brown are all set to jet back to Australia on Saturday.

The group headed back to Ireland once the AFL announced its shutdown plans in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Conor McKenna and his Bombers teammates Ross McQuillan and Cian McBride, as well as Magpies duo Anton Tohill and Mark Keane, and Giants youngster Callum Brown, are among a handful of players who have either returned to Ireland or are expected to imminently as the COVID-19 crisis continues to accelerate worldwide.

Young Magpies Callum Brown, Tyler Brown and Nathan Murphy each sign two-year extensions with Collingwood to remain at the club until the end of 2022.

Brothers Callum Brown and Tyler Brown have re-signed with the Magpies and will remain at the club until the end of 2020.

"Not much thought went into my mind except signing. I grew up barracking for the club. I've only seen one team and I love that," Callum said.

Tyler Brown, son of Gavin Brown, is set to join Collingwood as a father-son pick where his brother, Callum Brown, is already listed as a player.

"It would be great to play with Callum," Tyler said.

"He's has been a pretty big influence on me by showing me what it takes to play league footy.

"He's told to enjoy my draft year because it's my last year of junior football.

"He motivated me to go down the same path."

Collingwood father-son draftee Callum Brown is selected to make his debut against Melbourne in the Queen's Birthday clash.

"There is a bit of romanticism with his old man that will clearly be reflected on and it's just great to see a Brown in the first 22 for Collingwood again," Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said.

Callum Brown is battling glandular fever and will be sidelined from pre-season training for at least a few weeks.

Brown reported a sore throat last week and struggled through training.

"He was subsequently diagnosed over the weekend and has returned a verdict of glandular fever," Collingwood general manager of football Geoff Walsh said.

"He will be away from the club at least for the whole week and then once his bloods have returned and he’s feeling back to normal and OK, the medical team will make an assessment from next week onwards.

"It will obviously take him out of the mainstream program for a few weeks. We will just see how he progresses from there."

Collingwood select Callum Brown with pick No.35 in the 2016 National Draft.

"I was hoping one (a bid) wasn't going to come, but I was expecting one," Collingwood list manager Derek Hine said.

"I thought North might have been the problem, but it didn't really matter in the end. He's a consistent performer and we knew what we were getting when we took him."

Collingwood father-son prospect Callum Brown says he would be delighted to hear his name called out alongside that of Josh Daicos in Friday night's NAB AFL Draft.

The Magpies have formally nominated Brown, the son of three-time best and fairest winner Gavin Brown, and Daicos, the son of five-time leading goalkicker Peter Daicos, as potential father-son recruits.

"I've known Josh for a while now so we've become pretty close," Brown said.

"It would be extra special if we did end up there together. To go to an AFL club would be awesome, but to go with one of your close mates would be even better."

Brown admits the romantic notion of he and Daicos ending up at the club where their fathers are team of the century members often enters his thinking.

"I supported Collingwood as a kid. I probably didn't have a lot of choice growing up with Dad there and nor did Josh," Brown said.

"I'd love to go there. But there's no guarantees for Josh or I."

Saturday, 8 October 2016
Collingwood is likely to nominate Josh Daicos and Callum Brown as father-son picks and then wait until draft night to decide if they will join the club, according to Magpies list boss Derek Hine.

The Pies have first rights over the father-son pair and have closely monitored the duo across this season and previous years in the lead up to their under-18 season.

However, they haven't given any guarantees to the sons of club legends Peter Daicos and Gavin Brown, who are attending this week's NAB AFL Draft Combine.

"We've been really open and transparent to both of those boys and obviously Josh and Cal's parents and families. It's a little bit different to previous years," Hine said.

"In previous years you'd have to make that decision prior to the trading period but now it's a draft-type format so we're able to put them in a line and call them out where we rate them.

"They know the process and they know how it works, so we'll just continue with that process."
