Barry Hall is inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame Legend Tony Lockett helped convince Hall to leave the Saints after six seasons and head north to Sydney.

"I just had too much baggage at St Kilda, but I started to pull my head in," Hall said at the ceremony.

"I needed a fresh start, Sydney needed a key forward [although] in my eyes, no-one can fill Tony Lockett's shoes.

"It was very much off a gut feel and it was the best footy move I ever made."

Sam Reid is set to benefit from the arrival of former club legend Tony Lockett, who has commenced a part-time role with Sydney in recent weeks.

"He's been (working) one-on-one with a few of the forwards, but he hasn't tried to overhaul my kicking or shake it up too much," Reid said.

"He's just made a few of his own points that he thinks may work for me, and his main point is that no two things work for the same person, so he's very understanding of that and he's been very good so far."

Tony Lockett will travel from his Bowral home once a fortnight to Sydney to mentor the Swans' forwards.

"It's fantastic for our players to have access to Tony during our training sessions," Swans coach John Longmire said.

"He obviously knows a thing or two about goalkicking, and to be able to draw upon that experience and knowledge can only be a good thing for our players.

"We've been wanting to get Tony back for quite a few years now.

"He seems to be keen to get involved, so it's really good for our younger players in particular to have access to his knowledge."

Tony Lockett is inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Lockett booted an AFL-record 1360 goals in a 281-game career at St Kilda and the Sydney Swans.

"It (the record) does mean something (to me). You look back on it and I'm very proud of it, but nights like tonight, this means more tonight, it's fantastic," Lockett said at the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Goalkicking legend Tony Lockett will make a rare appearance at the footy to watch good mate Michael O'Loughlin play in his 300th game.

"It's very hard to find the words which speak highly enough of Mick," Lockett said.

"It's been an unbelievable effort. I remember when he first started with the club. He was like any normal kid who went about his business, but you could tell he was very polished and had the skills.

"You couldn't have said then he'd play 300 games. How could you? But he had the potential to play a lot of games."
