David Schwarz Biography

Thursday, 20 August 2020
Damien Hardwick lashes out at David Schwarz over the ex-Demon's comments on Tigers forward Tom Lynch.

Schwarz was part of a chorus of criticism directed at Lynch after the Tigers spearhead received two separate $1000 fines for striking in Richmond's win over Gold Coast.

Schwarz had labelled Lynch a "goose", "knucklehead" and said he needed to "stop trying to be something you're not" on 3AW radio.

"I love his aggression, sometimes he's going to go over it (the line) and he's going to (give away) free kicks, or like the weekend he's going to get a report or two," Hardwick said of Lynch.

"This guy's incredibly brave on the field. He jumps into packs, he jumps back with courage. So for people to sit there and say he lacks courage is completely irresponsible and lacks perspective in my point of view and they really should have a good hard look at themselves.

"Mainly I'm looking at David Schwarz here. I played a grand final (for Essendon against Melbourne in 2000) against that bloke and within 20 minutes of the game he was crying so (he should) have a look at himself at some stage."

David Schwarz receives a death threat after his controversial comments about the Demons when he declared he would rather see his former team lose under the current coach and administration.

"I was pretty annoyed and pretty upset with it," he said.

"It's not nice."

Former Melbourne star David Schwarz has cast doubt on Mark Neeld's future as the coach and says he would return to Demons as the club continues to flounder.

"The footy club is in serious trouble. Our footy department has been a debacle. There hasn't been anything down in the football department that's worked," he said.

"Cameron Schwab is probably the first step of many before this club is actually up and going. It's a proud club. I don't want to see my club go down.

"I actually want to go back and help. (I will do) whatever needs to be done.

"If that means going on the board or if that means I gave up everything to become a coach, well I would do whatever needs to be done so my footy club does survive.

"Because without that footy club, I'm not sitting here."

Saturday, 17 April 2010
Former gambling addict David Schwarz has revealed he has been approached by player managers to counsel two AFL players over gambling concerns.

"I will talk to them, absolutely," Schwarz said.

"It's in the process now. The problem is, managers have a suspicion about their players, but it's up to the player to acknowledge it."

Tuesday, 26 May 2009
Reformed gambler David Schwarz knows a high-profile player with gambling problems and has urged him to seek help.

"When someone named me in a newspaper article, it was the best thing that could've happened to me. I hope the player read what was in yesterday's paper and asks for help," he said.

"Footballers are told how good they are, they get clapped, they are wonderful, they are adored, they need someone in their corner to tell them not what they want to hear but what they have to hear."
