St Kilda reshuffles its coaching team around Alan Richardson with assistant Aaron Hamill moving to VFL affiliate Sandringham.

Hamill will replace Lindsay Gilbee as the Zebras' senior coach in 2018, with Gilbee to remain at the Saints in a development role.

"It’s really important for our coaches to have new challenges and opportunities to diversify their skills," Saints football manager Jamie Cox said.

"Lindsay did a fantastic job at Sandringham this season, with a number of our players recapturing form with the Zebras before returning to play a vital role in the senior side.

"Aaron has also been a vital part of our group, looking after the forwards at AFL level and will now have responsibility of overseeing his own team in 2018."

In his recently released autobiography, Matthew Scarlett reveals that he developed a hatred for St Kilda after being spat on by Aaron Hamill.

"St Kilda had just kicked a goal when Hamill turned around and spat on me. I was stunned. I couldn't believe he'd just done such a dog act," Scarlett wrote.

"You can use verbal and physical tactics to get to your opponent, but I draw the line at spitting, which is as disgusting and degrading."

Former Saints Max Hudghton and Aaron Hamill return to the club in specialist coaching roles.

"The appointment of Aaron and Max to these newly created roles will enable our list to receive high-performance coaching to further develop specific aspects of their game," coach Scott Watters said.

"They bring a high standard of technical knowledge, but as men they display exemplary character and values which reflect the culture we are creating at St Kilda."
