Hawthorn's ruck stocks continue to diminish after Wayde Skipper is ruled out for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury.

"The first one we thought was just hamstring scarring and the second time he complained of having an unstable knee so we didn't play him after that," Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said.

"But when we took him for scans the damage was to the hamstring tendon."

Former Western Bulldogs ruckman Wayde Skipper is in line for elevation after Hawk Simon Taylor was placed on the long-term injury list.

Hawthorn has taken former Bulldog Wayde Skipper with its first pick in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft to potentially ruck in place of Max Bailey who is out for most of the season.

"There is no urgency to make a decision like that. There has been no indication given to Wayde about that at the moment. With Max we have got the flexibility to add him to our long term injury list but at this stage we haven't done that," Hawthorn general manager of player personnel and strategy Chris Pelchen said.

Hawthorn is considering drafting an experienced ruckmen, one of Chris Bryan, Cameron Cloke, John Meesen, Adam Pattison or Wayde Skipper on Thursday night.
