Daniel Lloyd announces his retirement at the end of the 2023 season.

"I've known for quite some time now and (wife) Crystal and I have had many conversations about what it looks like for us going forward and how that impacts us and our family. It's the right time for us to move into our next chapter," Lloyd said.

"I'm so grateful for what this club has given me. It's provided me with an environment to not only become a better footballer but more importantly, to become a better person, a better husband and father."

Thursday, 23 May 2019
Former carpenter Daniel Lloyd nails down another year in his late-blooming career by signing a contract extension with Greater Western Sydney through to the end of the 2020 season.

Lloyd, who hails from the NSW Central Coast, didn't play his first AFL game until 2017, by which time he'd already turned 25.

Five years ago, he was working as a carpenter while playing for Killarney Vale in the Black Diamond League, when he was spotted by GWS assistant coach Mark McVeigh.

"I guess if you had have told me at the start that I'd still be here now, I wouldn't have believed you," Lloyd said.

"It's been an unbelievable journey."

Monday, 4 September 2017
Daniel Lloyd and ruckman Dawson Simpson sign contract extensions with GWS until the end of 2019 and 2018 respectively.

"Daniel and Dawson have both played important roles for us this year and we’re thrilled to have them put pen to paper," Giants football manager Wayne Campbell said.

"Both have unique stories in how they've got to this stage and have shown terrific resilience and dedication over the years."

Thursday, 11 May 2017
Daniel Lloyd's AFL dream came true when he was told he'd become Greater Western Sydney's 77th debutant.

The 25-year-old is a great footy story after he was plucked from the Killarney Bombers on the New South Wales central coast with selection 26 at the 2015 NAB AFL rookie draft.

GWS assistant coach Mark McVeigh is the man who spotted Lloyd – who had previously spent four years on a scholarship with the Western Bulldogs - kicking bags of goals two years earlier, and he was one of the first to congratulate Lloyd on his senior debut.

"It was a pretty good moment shaking his hand when he said congratulations because I owe him a lot, without him I wouldn't have been picked up," Lloyd said.

"He's a great mentor and a great person, he's a special bloke."

Tuesday, 21 March 2017
Giants rookie duo Sam Reid and Daniel Lloyd are promoted to the club's senior list.
Friday, 27 November 2015
Nine goals in a semi-final on the New South Wales central coast in front of Greater Western Sydney officials helped seal a rookie spot that was years in the making for new Giant Daniel Lloyd.

"That was the game they (GWS officials) came and watched me, so it was a perfect game for me to kick some goals," Lloyd said.

"I knew that I had a good game and if they were there then I had a slight hope."
