After being delisted by the Giants, Sam Reid is appointed as development coach of the club.

"My body wasn't up to the rigours of another season playing in the AFL, so this is a good way to be able to move on to the next stage of my life," Reid said.

"Helping the young guys develop is something I'm passionate about and to be able to help the Giants take the next step is an exciting challenge."

Swans coach John Longmire says forward Sam Reid has been working hard to address his goalkicking yips after a return of 27.31 so far in his career.

"He's really only coming into his second season of AFL football, so he's still working on those aspects every week and will continue to do for his whole career," Longmire said.

"You work on your craft and his craft is taking marks and kicking goals."

The Sydney Swans have re-signed key forward Sam Reid keeping him at the club for another five years.

"From all the time he's been at the club, he's really stood out as a first-class prospect for us and really worked hard to get himself where he is today," Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland said.

"We're really conscious of the changing face of AFL football with the new teams coming in, free agency and the like, so it was really pleasing Sam was agreeable to a long-term contract with us."

Reid says he is enjoying the comraderie of the playing group at the Swans

"I think that's what makes this club such a tight group. Everyone's in the same boat. Most guys are from interstate so when they come here they don't really know anyone outside the footy club," he said.


"You're sort of forced to hang around the guys from the footy club and it does make you bond a lot quicker and get to know each other."

Shoulder surgery has ended young Western Bulldog Sam Reid's 2010 season.

"We got x-rays and that's as good as the news got from there. He didn't have any structural damage but an MRI determined problems with his muscles and ligaments and he'll require surgery to restitch some of those muscle tendons," Bulldogs general manager of football James Fantasia said.

Type 1 diabetes will mean Bulldog Sam Reid will have a blood test every time he heads to the bench to test his blood suger levels.

"Sometimes I'll have to sit down for a bit and maybe eat some lollies or drink some Powerade," Reid said.

"It's quick. I only have to prick my finger and then it takes five seconds to read so the maximum time I need is 20 seconds."

Overcoming osteitis pubis and serious surgery has left young Bulldog Sam Reid with a burning desire to return to the ranks of the AFL.

"My goal is to be back by at least round nine," he said.

"Then I want to play finals as well. Once I get in there, I want to stay in there. I wish I was up and running now because there are injuries. Whenever I get injured, someone else does too and there's a spot there and I'm not able to take it."
