Josh Wagner signs a new deal with Melbourne to remain at the club in 2019.

"I wanted to stay at Melbourne. I've got some really good friends here and I'm very happy here, so it was great to sign," he said.

Josh Wagner is set to be sidelined for up to six weeks after dislocating his fibula in the Demon's six-point JLT Community Series win over the Western Bulldogs.

"It'll (the swelling in the leg) probably take a week to settle down and then he'll start running after that," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said.

"At this stage, we think it's about a four- to six-week injury."

Saturday, 18 February 2017
Josh Wagner dislocates his right fibula after getting his foot stuck in the ground during Melbourne's JLT Series clash with the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.

"[His fibula] went back in pretty easily and structurally they (the medical team) think it's pretty good," Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said of Wagner's injury.

"He'll be assessed by our medical team during the week but our fingers are crossed and we're hoping for the best.

"It's looking pretty positive at the moment but they're quietly confident with nothing structural there it's just a matter of getting the soreness to go away and getting him back out there playing."

Monday, 31 October 2016
Josh Wagner is promoted to Melbourne's senior list and signs a two-year deal to remain at the club until the end of 2018.

Wagner played 14 matches in his first season after being selected with the sixth pick in the 2015 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Sunday, 10 April 2016
Joshua Wagner makes his AFL debut for Melbourne at Blundstone Arena with 8 disposals (3 kicks and 5 handballs) and 4 tackles in a 5-point loss to North Melbourne.
Thursday, 7 April 2016
Josh Wagner is elevated from Melbourne's rookie list and will make his debut against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena.

"I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the whole time. I wasn't really expecting it this week, but I played a few NAB [Challenge] games and last weekend, and had a crack and it paid off," Wagner said.

"I'd say I'd just be playing in the backline, like what I've been doing all pre-season. I don't think it'll change much."
