Jarrod Pickett Biography

Tuesday, 11 June 2019
Carlton and Jarrod Pickett have agreed to part ways.

Pickett, who is recovering from a long-term knee injury sustained last summer, played just 17 AFL games after being recruited to Greater Western Sydney with pick No.4 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

He will return home to Western Australia.

"Both parties have made the decision to part ways now in order to allow Jarrod to get back home to his family," Carlton list boss Stephen Silvagni said in a statement.

"We will provide Jarrod with the necessary assistance he requires to begin the next chapter of his life and we wish him all the best for the future."

Jarrod Pickett suffers ruptured patella tendon and will require surgery after injuring himself at training.

Pickett's right leg looked to buckle underneath him in the early stages of the club's final session before Christmas, with a stretcher forced to help him from the field.

Wednesday, 21 November 2018
Jarrod Pickett agrees to do additional pre-season training sessions, having returned to the club last week slightly overweight.

Pickett has been asked to train with the club's VFL affiliate the Northern Blues as he builds his fitness base, doing an alternative program that features a host of double sessions.

Friday, 16 March 2018
Jarrod Pickett will be sidelined for the first three months of the 2018 season with a fractured wrist.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury at a training session, with scans confirming the fracture to his scaphoid.

Carlton has landed three more Giants in a pair of last-minute trades.

The Blues bolstered their developing list by snaring Greater Western Sydney key defender Caleb Marchbank, small forward Jarrod Pickett and, in a separate deal, experienced mid-sized forward Rhys Palmer.

Remarkably, the Blues secured 122-gamer Palmer with round-eight draft pick No.135 in November's NAB AFL Draft.

The Blues claimed youngsters Marchbank and Pickett, along with the Giants' 2017 second-round selection, in exchange for picks No.45 and 58, and their 2017 first-round pick.

The major prize was promising backman Marchbank, the No.6 pick in the 2014 draft who played seven games in two seasons with the Giants.

The 19-year-old from Benalla played the opening two games this year but didn't return to AFL level due to ankle and shoulder injuries. His most recent game was in the NEAFL in round 16.

The lively Pickett, 20, is yet to make his AFL debut after two years at the Giants, and his 2016 season was ruined by a long-term foot injury.

Fellow West Australian Palmer, 27, lands at his third club, having played 53 games for Fremantle from 2008-11 and 69 games for the Giants.

Tuesday, 19 April 2016
Jarrod Pickett will miss the rest of the season after becoming the latest player to suffer a Lisfranc injury.

Pickett went down during the second quarter of the Giants' reserves match in Canberra after landing awkwardly in a marking contest and will have surgery to repair the fracture in his foot.

"It's an unfortunate injury for Jarrod who has been progressing really well," GWS head of athletic performance David Joyce said.

"As is always the case with our players, Jarrod's long-term welfare is the most important thing so we'll put in place a rehabilitation program to ensure he returns stronger than ever."

Thursday, 13 August 2015
Jarrod Pickett knew as soon as he stepped into Greater Western Sydney that getting a game in his debut season would be difficult.

"I know I need to be patient. I might get a taste of things towards the end of the year if a spot opens up, but I'm not too fussed if I don't play this year," Pickett said.

"The coaches know where I'm at, and next year is going to be a bigger one for me. We've got a good team. Everyone would have thought a few years ago that it's easy to get a game for the Giants, but it's hard."

Wednesday, 6 May 2015
Greater Western Sydney has moved quickly to extend the contract of No.4 draft pick Jarrod Pickett, adding another year to the West Australian's deal before he has made his AFL debut.

GWS Coach Leon Cameron said during the pre-season that Pickett's speed, skill and aerial exploits had begun to shine at training with some eye-catching moments.

"He's going to take another couple of years in terms of building his motor to adapt to AFL footy, but it takes a while for these kids to say 'Well, I better not show what I can do yet because I haven't earned the respect from the lads'," Cameron said.

"You can clearly just see him saying 'Hey boys, this is what I can do'."

Friday, 28 November 2014
GWS select Jarrod Pickett with pick No.4 at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"Jarrod's really silky, has speed, can kick a goal, can play in defence and take a good grab – he's a really classy player," Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni said.
