Jack Frost Biography

Monday, 5 November 2018
Retired Brisbane defender Jack Frost opens up on the serious impacts that concussion had on his life.

"Probably the worst of it was last year, where I couldn't come into the club for maybe six months because I was waking up feeling like I was in a washing machine," Frost said.

"Any time I did exercise and my heart rate went up felt like my head was going to blow off my shoulders.

"My personality changed a great deal. My partner Kaz, just ask her how much of a pain I was to deal with.

"There was just a turning point there where it took a lot longer for me to recover and I started thinking it was pretty dangerous.

"There's not a huge amount of knowledge around the subject either. It is scary, and you just never know what's going to happen."

Jack Frost retires following repeated problems with concussion.

The 26-year-old made the decision after receiving advice from a specialist in Melbourne during the off-season.

In his six-year AFL career Frost has suffered 14 concussions while playing for the Lions and Collingwood.

"I have days where I feel okay and have accepted the fact that I can no longer play but I also have days where I get quite frustrated and upset that this is how it has ended," Frost said.

"I do, however, value my health and the rest of my life and if I can be healthy and avoid further damage to my head it’s a no brainer, pardon the pun.

"I will miss the environment and how lucky I was to play but am also excited to explore my future and the opportunities that will present themselves."

Jack Frost will miss the round one clash against Gold Coast after being hit with a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle on Brandon Matera.

Frost was charged by the Match Review Panel with rough conduct after slinging Matera into the ground in the teams' JLT Community Series clash.

Jack Frost feels slighted by his exit from Collingwood, and desperately wants to prove he can still play at the top level.

"I do have something to prove," Frost said.

"Especially from your old club, when there's no interest, and you take a little bit of it to heart; I'm sure any athlete would."

Frost will have to wait a little longer to prove himself to his new teammates after undergoing off-season hip surgery that will keep him from full training until after Christmas.

"It's frustrating being in rehab because you just want to jump in and prove what you can do," he said.

"You want to get involved and get amongst it all and show your leadership qualities, which is a bit harder when you're sitting on the sidelines and watching, but it is what it is and I'll be right soon enough."

Jack Frost nominates the Brisbane Lions as his new home, with the out-of-contract key defender set to sign a three-year deal with the Queensland club.

The athletic 195cm backman, who has played 54 games for the Magpies coming off the rookie list, fell out of favour this season and didn't play senior football after round 12.

"Frosty has decided that's he's going to be joining the Brisbane Lions on a three-year deal, should a trade be done," Frost's manager Ben Williams said.

"Obviously players want to play footy and they want to play senior footy and he was out of the team and didn't look like he was getting back in the team."

The Brisbane Lions are monitoring the progress of uncontracted Collingwood defender Jack Frost as it seeks to add key defenders to the list.

Jack Frost may have only tallied eight disposals during Collingwood's Anzac Day win against Essendon, but his acts of selflessness on the field earns him one vote for the Anzac Day medal.

The most decisive moment came in the third quarter when he ran off Joe Daniher to spoil Jake Carlisle who was set to mark in goalkicking range.

Frost never looked like making the spoil until he made it.

The act was both heartening for the Magpies and demoralising for the Bombers.

It wasn't the only time Frost sprinted off his man as Essendon challenged, again timing his run to perfection to disrupt the attack.

"It's an instinctive decision, I guess," Frost said.

"If you see a guy by himself and you know the ball is going up high then you just have to go.

"You can't think twice about it because if you hesitate then you're probably not going to get there so you've just got to go."

Monday, 29 September 2014
Jack Frost re-signs with Collingwood for a further two years, tying him to the club until the end of 2016.

"I'm very excited that I will be playing at Collingwood for a further two years and extremely grateful for the opportunity that the club has given me," Frost said.

"We have a fantastic group of players and a real belief in the direction we are going and I look forward to hopefully playing a key role in that."

Sam Frost says him and brother Jack have a point to prove after both battling to get onto an AFL list.

"There is always a little bit of a chip on your shoulder missing out on something you wanted so badly to begin with," Sam said.

"And then getting an opportunity to maybe prove a few people wrong – definitely for me personally and I think Jack's the same.

"Jack ended up having hip operations before he was drafted.

"I spoke to 15 or 16 clubs at draft camp, but I didn't test because I had bad hips, so I can imagine why it seemed like a bit of an issue.

"But without surgery I played almost every game in the reserves in my first season with the Giants.

"I think it was blown up a bit, but it's all in the past now.

"It's brought us together, having gone through the same thing, and definitely there's a fire burning and you want to prove everyone wrong that didn't give you the chance."

Young Collingwood defender Jack Frost says he relishes the opportunity to go against some of the game's biggest forwards.

"It's a great challenge. I love the challenge. I love playing against these players," Frost said.

"Bucks gives me the challenges and I suppose he has the trust in me, and so far I've been able to hold up my own."

Sunday, 31 March 2013
Jack Frost makes his AFL debut for Collingwood at Docklands Stadium with 12 disposals (9 kicks and 3 handballs), 2 marks and 3 tackles in a 16-point win over North Melbourne.
Tuesday, 26 March 2013
After being promoted to the senior list, Jack Frost is set to make his debut in round one against North Melbourne.

"He has proven his ability to shut down tall defenders with the absence (in the pre-season) of Nathan Brown and Ben Reid at times," Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said.

"He adds to our depth there and it becomes important, shutting down North's talls."

Tuesday, 19 March 2013
Jack Frost is elevated to the Magpies' primary list and could be a chance to debut in round one to cover for Ben Reid.
