Port Adelaide parts ways with assistant coach Garry Hocking and delists John Butcher, Kane Mitchell and Sam Colquhoun.

"It’s a difficult time of year when the club needs to make decisions for its short and long-term future regarding our football structure," Port Adelaide’s general manager of football Chris Davies said.

"John, Kane and Sam have given great service to our club and we wish them all the best with their futures.

"Garry’s tenure at the club has been the most significant of our coaching panel.

"We thank him for his work since 2010 as a development, line coach and Magpies coach for two seasons."

Sam Colquhoun is entering the home straight of his rehabilitation from a ruptured ACL and hopes to make himself available for selection early next season.

"It's been about six-and-a-half months for me at the moment, I've been running for about two months, three months," he said.

"At the moment I'm just ticking off each process … I've got no real expectations on a [return] date … just early in the season.

"I'm feeling very fit and it's a good opportunity for me to put on some physical strength and come back a more rounded, solid player."

Port Adelaide has re-signed emerging pair Aaron Young and Sam Colquhoun until at least the end of 2016.

"He's still got lots of upside in him and even on the weekend he gave us a bit of a kick after he came on," Power coach Ken Hinkley said about Young.

"He demonstrates to us consistently that he's going to be a really strong player for us for a long period of time, so we're rapt to have him."

"Sam, at the time of his injury, was just about right to get back into the side and he's certainly an important part of our group going forward," Hinkley said about Colquhoun.

"People have missed the fact that we've had a pretty important part of our side missing this year, because we thought his improvement this year was going to be significant.

"We know he's got a really strong future."

Sam Colquhoun makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at Football Park with 17 disposals (7 kicks and 10 handballs), 2 marks and a tackle in a 41-point loss to Richmond.

After missing out on being drafted at the national draft, Sam Colquhoun is officially an AFL player after being selected by Port Adelaide in the pre-season draft.

"(There's) a bit of relief after the disappointment in November, but it's a good feeling I suppose not having to go out hunting for a full-time job," Colquhoun said.

"I grew up supporting the Power and the Port Adelaide Football Club have been awesome with the opportunity they've given me, so I want to take that opportunity and keep developing as a player."
