Dean Kent Biography

Friday, 19 August 2022
Dean Kent will play his 100th and final game this week after announcing his retirement.

"It's been a pretty injury-laden run, but I've loved every minute of it. My beautiful partner Elle and I are about to welcome our second child, so this really feels like the right time to step into life after footy," Kent said.

Thursday, 27 June 2019
Dean Kent is out for the season after suffering a quad injury at training.

During match simulation at RSEA Park, Kent kicked the football after a mark and then went down to the ground in pain.

"Scans show Dean has acquired a tear to the top of his left quadriceps muscle," St Kilda football manager Simon Lethlean said.

"Unfortunately, with injuries of this nature you're looking at a 10 to 12-week recovery period, so this will end Dean's season."

Friday, 12 October 2018
Dean Kent joins St Kilda on a three-year deal after being traded by Melbourne to St Kilda for pick No. 65.

"Dean's biggest strengths are his speed, power and penetrating kick," St Kilda list boss James Gallagher said.

"He's proven to be a dangerous forward during his career to this point and we also think that he can play a role for us higher up the ground and through the midfield to add a different element to our current group."

Thursday, 27 September 2018
Out-of-favour Demon Dean Kent is looking to move to St Kilda.

"If he (Kent) goes to St Kilda he's going to be given time to play in the midfield," Kent's manager manager Ben Niall said.

"He's been given an offer which is more secure in terms of length and financially, so this makes a lot of sense to be realistic and think about his family.

"If he wants to be in the system for seven or eight more years he would be smarter to go the Saints and be an important part of their midfield mix."

Tuesday, 11 September 2018
Melbourne rules out Dean Kent for the rest of 2018, with the forward undergoing surgery to repair the AC joint in his shoulder.

Kent injured the AC joint in his right shoulder after coming off second best in a ground level contest with Giant Lachie Whitfield as the pair battled for a loose ball in round 23.

"Dean was trying to get back to play, but his progress was really slow, so unfortunately he’s had to go into surgery today (Tuesday) on that AC joint," Demons elite performance manager Dave Misson said.

Wednesday, 25 April 2018
Dean Kent is set to miss up to a month after injuring his left hamstring in the Demons' 46-point loss to Richmond at the MCG.
Monday, 14 August 2017
Dean Kent's season is over after the Demons decided to book him in for surgery to treat a dislocated left shoulder suffered against Adelaide at TIO Stadium in Darwin in round 17.

The Demons had kept the door open for Kent to return this season but it was decided that surgery was the best option after he experienced pain in his shoulder while running.

Sunday, 2 July 2017
Melbourne confirm that Jay Kennedy-Harris, Ben Kennedy, Dean Kent and Jake Spencer were banned from selection for Friday night's loss to Sydney after breaching the club's alcohol policy.

The quartet broke team rules following VFL affiliate Casey's 26-point win over Box Hill.

Tuesday, 24 January 2017
Dean Kent has been laid low by a niggling back issue that is set to keep him in modified training for the next month.

"Just before we broke for Christmas, Kenty had a flare up in his back," Demons fitness boss Dave Misson said.

"He's had some of that (back tightness) previously during the season, so we just want to use the time now to settle it down.

"It'll probably take another month to get him back ready to play again."

Wednesday, 15 June 2016
Dean Kent has spurned opposition interest to re-sign with the Demons for a further two years.

Kent, who was due to fall out of contract at the end of the season, will remain with the club until at least the end of 2018.

"Dean has always shown the ability and talent to play at AFL level," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said.

"He has been able to improve his consistency in games and also focus on his preparation, which has allowed him to play consistent footy throughout the year."

Sunday, 5 May 2013
Dean Kent makes his AFL debut for Melbourne at the MCG with 3 disposals (3 kicks), 3 tackles and a goal in a 61-point loss to Carlton.
Monday, 7 January 2013
Nathan Jones says the Demons' midfield will improve considerably with the injection of young talent including draftees Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Viney and Dean Kent.

"They are going to come in and add some real class," Jones said.

"They will eventually catch up in dealing with the rigours of the game and eventually will be the staple of the midfield."
