Jackson Ramsay Biography

Monday, 30 October 2017
Collingwood delist Jackson Ramsay.

Ramsay, 22, played 17 games since being recruited with pick No.38 overall in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

He had a wrist injury in 2013 and then shin issues in 2015, before he ruptured his left anterior cruciate ligament at training after round two in 2016.

He started 2017 in the AFL side, but his form stalled mid-year and he wasn't able to reclaim his spot after round 15.

Jackson Ramsay is sent to have his knee examined after hurting it at training.

Ramsay had just played his best game for the club on Friday night against Richmond and finally looked to be cementing his place in the team after a frustrating run with injury.

Ramsay received a coaches' vote after picking up 23 disposals and taking seven marks against the Tigers.

Jackson Ramsay will miss the rest of the 2016 season after injuring his ACL at training.

Ramsay left the track after going down in a tackle and went inside the club before being sent for scans.

Collingwood has shored up its future by re-signing young trio Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore and Jackson Ramsay to contract extensions.

De Goey and Moore, who were both top-10 draft picks last year, were contracted to the club until the end of 2016 on the standard two-year deals presented to draftees.

But the duo have added a further two years onto their stay and will both be tied to Collingwood through to the end of 2018.

The improving Ramsay has also agreed to a new two-year deal after playing all bar one game so far this season.

"We've been lucky enough to get three of our really exciting younger players to sign up for the long-term," club football manager Neil Balme told the club's website.

"It kind of doesn't matter today, because today's about playing. But in the longer-term it's very important to us and it is to them as well, so it's really good news."

Jackson Ramsay's horror run of injuries in the years preceding the draft had the 17-year-old doubting he'd make it before being selected by Collingwood with pick 38 in the national draft.

He broke the bipartite sesamoid bone in his foot in the second game of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, and then managed just one more game for Western Australia before his season ended.

"It's a weight bearing bone in your foot and if that splits, you're in quite a bit of strife," he said.

"I went the non-surgical route and it's just starting to come good now. It's about 95 per cent now and I'm doing most of the running and it's hanging in there, which is good."
