Nathan Wright signs a two-year contract extension with St Kilda that will keep him at the club until the end of 2018.

"Nathan's committed approach to his training has seen him overcome injury and spend a greater amount of time in the seniors in 2016," St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains said.

"Nathan brought a real toughness to our forward line, with his move from defence clearly adding flexibility to our line-up."

Nathan Wright is pushing to prove his fitness ahead of the Saints' opening NAB Challenge match as he eyes a full-time role across half-back in 2015.

"In my first couple of years I tried to nail down my defence and stop my man and I feel comfortable having that part of my game down pat now," Wright said.

"This year I've put a big focus on getting 15-20 possessions every game and helping rebound the footy coming out of defensive 50.

"With my improved fitness, hopefully that will help me run out games better and get those possessions on a weekly basis."

Jarryn Geary says the knowledge he contributed to teammate Nathan Wright's broken leg haunted him throughout the second half of St Kilda's loss to Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Geary and Wright collided mid-air in the second quarter of the Saints' 86-point loss with both coming to ground and the latter landing awkwardly.

Geary was able to get up and chase the ball while Wright was slower to move before being assisted from the field by two trainers when the pain of the break took hold.

The Saints were relatively sure he had fractured his fibula before the game finished. Scans later confirmed the injury and he had surgery on Monday.

"I did feel bad and it sort of played on my mind throughout the game and then at half-time I went and spoke to him and he told me he'd hurt his leg," Geary said.

"I was a bit concerned and as the game went on, it was in the back of my mind.

"He assured me he didn't think there was much in it, which was nice of him but it's not ideal, you don't feel too good about doing those types of things to your own teammates."

Shin soreness prevents Nathan Wright from joining the Saints' high-altitude training camp in Colorado.

"For my sake it was better to stay back and do my rehab here, rather than go over there and do all the hikes and maybe make it worse," Wright said.

"The idea was to get it right now and rest up so when the boys come back after Christmas I can join in with them and get stuck into it.

"It's obviously a small thing, but we just wanted to knock it off before it became something more serious."

Tuesday, 14 May 2013
Eddie Betts accepts a 3-match ban for rough conduct against St Kilda midfielder Nathan Wright.

Wright had to be substituted out of the game following Betts' high bump in the third quarter, and scans on Tuesday revealed he had a fractured jaw.

Friday, 10 May 2013
Nathan Wright says he was surprised to be picked up with St Kilda's first selection in the draft last November.

"I had just guessed that recruiters wouldn't have looked at me that highly because they didn't really rate my kicking that much," Wright said.

"I guess when I go for a run and get my speed up, I tend to struggle with my kicking.

"Then I was playing TAC and recruiters started talkingabout it. It's a bit tough and you're always hearing it and you think, 'I mightn't be that good a kick'."

Saturday, 13 April 2013
Nathan Wright makes his AFL debut for St Kilda at Manuka Oval with 22 disposals (8 kicks and 14 handballs), 2 marks and 3 tackles in a 72-point win over GWS.
