Ben Kennedy Biography

Monday, 2 October 2017
Ben Kennedy’s AFL career is seemingly over after being delisted by Melbourne.

Kennedy took to Instagram to announce the news, accompanied by a screenshot of a farewell message from teammate Billy Stretch.

"I'd like to think I played the game the way it should be played and my teammates and family respected my work ethic and competitiveness," Kennedy said.

"At least now I can get my nose pierced again."

Kennedy – who is just 175cm tall – also joked that he "did alright" for his size, saying he "can’t kick or run".

Ben Kennedy believes he is a ready-made player capable of playing a full season with the Demons in 2016 after crossing over from Collingwood.

"I've had my years of development and I'm ready to start playing now," Kennedy said.

"I'm ready and up for it, so hopefully I can play all games next year and have a bit of an impact."

Kennedy says he hopes Melbourne will provide him with greater opportunities than were available to him at the Magpies.

"I wanted a little bit more opportunity … and they really impressed me with what they presented to me," he said.

"I look forward to paying them back and I'm really looking forward to the fresh start and getting into it."

Melbourne has expressed interest in Greater Western Sydney's Tomas Bugg and Collingwood's Ben Kennedy as it targets "competitive players" in the 21-24 age bracket.

Demons football manager Josh Mahoney confirmed the club was looking to add Bugg, 22, and Kennedy, 21, to its squad in this year's trade period.
