Caolan Mooney nominates for the 2019 AFL Draft in the hope of rekindling a six-game career that came to a halt at the end of the 2014 season when he chose to go home.

Irish Magpie duo Caolan Mooney and Marty Clarke have ended their AFL careers, with both set to return to Ireland.

Mooney, who played six games with the Magpies after making an impressive debut against Fremantle in round 14, 2012 posted a tweet on Wednesday night that he had decided to return to Ireland.

Reports from Ireland also suggested Clarke was set to return to his home country, completing a 73-game career with the Magpies that began in 2007. His departure was subsequently confirmed by Collingwood on Thursday morning.

Caolan Mooney makes his AFL debut for Collingwood at the MCG with 3 disposals (a kick and 2 handballs) and 2 tackles in a 29-point win over Fremantle.

Harry O'Brien says rookie Irishman Caolan Mooney has some of the most explosive pace he has seen.

"I've had the pleasure of playing on players like Cyril Rioli and players that have real explosive speed and I'd say Caolan is another level up from that," O'Brien said.

"It's really exciting to see. He's put in a lot of work, a lot of sacrifice moving across from the other side of the world to play a professional sport, and it's great for him to get an opportunity.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do because the sky's the limit for him."
