Darren Minchington is handed yet another lifeline by Hawthorn after being cut by the club at the end of 2019. He joins them again via the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).

Minchington will replace Will Golds for 2020 after the rookie midfielder ruptured his ACL in a practice match on the weekend and was placed on the Inactive Player List.

Hawthorn signs former St Kilda small forward Darren Minchington as a delisted free agent.

Injuries ruined Minchington's 2018 season – left knee surgery and hip issues being the main problems – and he didn't line up in a senior game.

"Darren has been unlucky with injury during his career, but we have seen him excel in the VFL despite these challenges," Hawks recruiting manager Mark McKenzie said.

"Darren is a young man of great character and we look forward to working with him to maximise his full potential."

Minchington has struggled with ankle, hip and knee injuries in the past two seasons.

Tuesday, 20 March 2018
Darren Minchington will require surgery on a knee he injured in a Sandringham intraclub just over a week ago.

"He tweaked his medial co-lateral ligament on his knee but he has sustained a compression fracture on the outside of his knee, so that will need to be elevated surgically," St Kilda head physiotherapist Andrew Wallis said.

"We're looking like probably 6-8 weeks before he can run, so he's going to be a bit of a delayed return."

Tuesday, 13 March 2018
Darren Minchington suffers a knee injury that will delay his start to the season by up to six weeks.

Minchington sustained medial ligament damage to his left knee during a VFL intra-club match with Sandringham.

"Thankfully the scans showed it wasn’t as serious as it could have been and he should be back training in a few weeks, which is a positive," Saints football manager Simon Lethlean said.

"Darren was just starting to hit his straps over the past month after missing a large chunk of the second half of the 2017 season with an ankle injury."

Friday, 30 June 2017
Darren Minchington will miss two months of football after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury he suffered in the VFL.

Minchington, 23, was strapped up and managed to play out the game as Sandringham suffered an upset 25-point loss to Coburg at Trevor Barker Oval.

"Unfortunately Darren hurt his ankle while playing for Sandringham last weekend," St Kilda football manager Jamie Cox said.

"Subsequent scans have shown he needs surgery to correct the issue but we're hopeful he can get back before the end of the season and still have an impact this year."

Monday, 5 September 2016
Darren Minchington signs a two-year contract extension with St Kilda that will keep him at the club until the end of 2018.

Minchington, 22, had played just 10 games in his previous four seasons with the Saints heading into 2016, but managed 13 this year rotating between the forward line and midfield.

"We were really happy with Darren's season and his improved form has seen him play a greater role in the senior side," St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains said.

"We love his tackling pressure, he is dangerous around goals and he has shown some promising midfield play. I am sure our fans will enjoy watching him continue to develop in 2017 and beyond."

Tuesday, 8 September 2015
St Kilda has backed small forward Darren Minchington to take his game to another level in 2016 by awarding him a one-year contract.

"I'm stoked to have re-signed with the club for another season," Minchington said.

"We have a really exciting group of up-and-coming players that are all working together to achieve our goals in the future.

"To be a part of that and hopefully play an important role next year is great. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else."

Friday, 9 August 2013
Darren Minchington makes his AFL debut for St Kilda at Docklands Stadium with 8 disposals (6 kicks and 2 handballs), 4 marks and a goal in a 46-point loss to Hawthorn.
