Jason Blake says he is grateful to have been offered a Saints lifeline after the club failed to secure West Coast defender Mitch Brown during the trade period.

"It wasn't a factor of whether I could play anymore; it was a fact about list management and where it sat," Blake said.

"I was very fortunate to get a call from Scotty to say that he would love to have me back on board to play a similar role to last year and just contribute as much as I could.

"I was very grateful and very, very happy to take that call."

"I think the club is in a great position going forward in regards to the playing group, the coaching staff and the club itself and I want to be a part of that," Blake said.

"Half-way through the year I decided I would like to go again. I just wanted to see how my body was tracking and where the group sat with the new coach."
