St Kilda selects ex-Hawk Jordan Kelly with pick No.23 in the 2014 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"He has the potential [to slot into the side straight away]. He was very close to getting a game at Hawthorn last season," recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple said.

"We think after three very good development years at Hawthorn he could be ready to go given a good run with injury over the summer."

Jordan Kelly is refusing to accept that his AFL dream is over after being delisted by Hawthorn.

"I was pretty disappointed, but then after that I saw it as an opportunity and a new challenge to try and get back to the AFL system," Kelly said about being cut from the Hawks' list.

"There weren't that many opportunities (at Hawthorn) and then whoever got their opportunity took it. I was waiting in the wings for mine, but unfortunately didn't get it.

"But I reckon as soon as I get that opportunity to put my print on the game I'll definitely make the most of it and hopefully cement my spot in a team elsewhere.

"I'm hungrier than ever."

Monday, 28 November 2011
Hawthorn draftee Jordan Kelly says training with the Hawks for the first time was an eye-opener.

It was interesting. The intensity is up from TAC level but I enjoyed it," Kelly said.

"It was exciting but a little bit intimidating. You know you're not quite at their level just yet but there's a long hard road ahead and it's good to start."
