Western Bulldogs forward Zephaniah Skinner will return home to WA after quitting the AFL.

"Zephi, this morning, told his teammates that he will be retiring from AFL football and returning home to be with his family and community, where he feels a strong sense of responsibility," Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said.

"We really didn't want to lose Zephi, as he is a well-liked person here, but we respect his decision to return home to his family."

Zephaniah Skinner makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval with 2 disposals (2 kicks), 2 marks and a tackle in an 8-point loss to Sydney.

The Western Bulldogs pulled one of the surprises of the NAB AFL Draft when they plucked Zephaniah Skinner from the Northern Territory.

"He's a big mark, and his speed and agility are elite," Bulldogs list manager Simon Dalrymple said.

"But his defensive pressure is also elite."
