Mitchell Hallahan Biography

Sunday, 17 September 2017
Discarded Gold Coast midfielder Mitch Hallahan says the Suns focused too much on what he couldn't do, rather than what he could, in his three years at the club.

"I was traded up here for my contested ball winning ability, that was always a strength of mine, and the question mark has always been my speed and endurance," Hallahan said.

"I was challenged heavily on that by Rocket (coach Rodney Eade) - are you quick enough, can you cover the ground?

"It's a funny way to look at it, keeping a guy out of a side because of his weaknesses and not because of his strengths."

Gold Coast delist five players including Jarrad Grant and Mitch Hallahan as well as rookies Ryan Davis, Keegan Brooksby and Cam Loersch.

Mitch Hallahan is ruled out for two months after scans confirm a broken foot for the midfielder.

Hallahan suffered the fracture in a NEAFL practice match against the Brisbane Lions at the weekend.

"He had an X-ray on the night at Pindara [Hospital] which showed he’s got a fracture in his fifth metatarsal, so that’s the bone on the outside of his foot," Suns head physiotherapist Adam Russell said.

"He's off seeing our ankle surgeon, Ben Forster, at the moment, and unfortunately he’ll get that (ankle) screwed this afternoon so he’s looking at about eight weeks on the sidelines."

Gold Coast's midfield stocks have been further depleted with Mitch Hallahan (arm) and Alex Sexton (knee) ruled out for the season.

Hallahan has missed the past two weeks and the club fears another knock would do further damage to his arm.

Sexton was absent from Saturday's draw against West Coast after suffering the knee injury against Adelaide the previous week.

Gold Coast recruit Mitch Hallahan says the chance to kick-start his AFL career by cracking into the Suns midfield fuelled his decision to leave back-to-back premier Hawthorn.

"Coming from such an established and successful club, I found it hard to break into what is such an amazing midfield," Hallahan said.

"I'm ready to play, I feel that. I think I can contribute a lot to this Gold Coast Suns midfield."

Thursday, 16 October 2014
Hawthorn and Gold Coast have finalised a trade sending midfielder Mitch Hallahan to the Suns in exchange for picks No.47 and 49 in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.

In a deal that took significant time to finalise, Hallahan joined the Suns on the final day of the NAB AFL Trade Period with less than two-and-a-half hours remaining before the 2pm deadline.

The 22-year-old said the prospect of playing with Suns superstar Gary Ablett and the club's promising midfield group was a key factor in his decision.

"I think it's going to be a wonderful experience for myself to learn and play alongside not only the young exciting talent they have in (David) Swallow, (Jaeger) O'Meara, (Dion) Prestia, but also probably, arguably, the greatest midfielder in the game in Gary Ablett," Hallahan said.

"I think it's going to be really good for my football in the coming years."

Monday, 21 April 2014
Mitchell Hallahan makes his AFL debut for Hawthorn at the MCG with 6 disposals (4 kicks and 2 handballs), 3 marks and a goal in a 19-point loss to Geelong.
