Ayce Cordy Biography

Tuesday, 15 September 2015
Ayce Cordy is delisted by the Western Bulldogs after having played just 27 games in seven seasons

Cordy battled injuries early in his time at the Dogs, but failed to take ample opportunities as a ruckman-forward in recent seasons.

Coach Luke Beveridge gave him a run of seven successive games from round two this season but he failed to cement his place and wasn't picked again after round nine.

Former Western Bulldogs captain Luke Darcy is confident Ayce Cordy can still have a successful career at Whitten Oval, despite the underperforming ruckman playing just 20 games in six seasons.

"He's had a huge amount of bad luck and significant injuries, but he's been through that now, he played a lot of games in the VFL last year and he's starting to get some continuity in his footy," Darcy said.

"But it's a massive 12 months coming up for him, and there comes a point where you have to play enough good football and prove to yourself you can be a really good AFL player."

The Bulldogs are fined $10,000 for bringing in Tom Campbell to replace Ayce Cordy as a late change despite Campbell not being on their emergency list.

Ayce Cordy has the luxury of being mentored by two greats in Cameron Mooney and Chris Grant.

"He's got me in the ring a couple of times, and smacked me around the head just to teach me a bit of sense," Cordy said about Mooney.

"He's really big on trying to keep your confidence up and just doing the right things, always, one after the other, and good things will happen."

"He's definitely a legend at this football club and definitely a legend throughout the AFL," Cordy then said about Grant.

"You look at blokes like him, but you're not going to try and be Chris Grant, because you know everyone wants to be Chris Grant. You take bits and pieces from them."

New Dogs development coach Ashley Hansen says he can't wait to work with Liam Jones and Ayce Cordy.

"I'm going to be as enthusiastic as they are to watch them improve, so hopefully we can work together and really drive each other," Hansen said.

"I'm looking forward to working with them and seeing how they develop over the course of the year and making sure their skill-set is one that will hopefully win finals one day."

Monday, 18 June 2012
Western Bulldogs' big man Ayce Cordy has been touted for big things, and is now starting to deliver.

"He's a driven kid, he's ambitious and he's smart enough to look and say, 'I've got to get better at this and I've got to work on this if I want to play in this team.' And it's a good starting point. He's going to be a good young player," Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney said after Cordy tallied four contested grabs and two goals against the Power.

After being overlooked in round one, Ayce Cordy earns a chance to prove himself against St Kilda in the third round of 2012.

"I was pretty angry, pretty upset, so I didn't have much to say. I just nodded, bowed my head and started to move on … (I was) hugely disappointed … (and) a pretty devastated bloke," Cordy said.

"I knew that I couldn't control that and had to respond in the VFL on the weekend. I had something to prove. I really thought I'd earned my spot for round one, so I felt that when I went back to the VFL I really had to make a statement."

Sunday, 21 August 2011
Ayce Cordy makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Football Park with 6 disposals (a kick and 5 handballs), 3 marks, 2 tackles and 2 hitouts in a 60-point win over Port Adelaide.

A persistent back injury will probably keep Ayce Cordy off the park again this week.

Cordy, 18, has played just one game since injuring his neck against Geelong in the VFL three weeks ago.

"The neck was the biggest problem and then he still had a sore back, and we thought it was just from landing," Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said.

"He was still very sore so we just did a check and he's got a slight crack in there. It's not in the spine itself or vertebrae itself

"He played the week after he hurt himself and said he felt okay, but there was a bit of pain there and he struggled a bit.

"Just to make sure, he probably won't play again this week, but it's not a serious thing."

Luke Darcy believes his old side's fans will see plenty of gifted father-son recruit Ayce Cordy this season.
