Scott Camporeale Biography

Friday, 11 October 2019
Adelaide football boss Brett Burton and assistant coach Scott Camporeale will leave the Crows as a result of the club's wide-ranging football review.

Adelaide ordered a review of its football operations after a dramatic decline in fortunes since winning the 2017 minor premiership and subsequently losing the Grand Final to Richmond.

Crows chairman Rob Chapman said consistent themes emerged from the six-week review, led by external consultants, which was run in conjunction with a "detailed internal analysis".

"People talk about the club and the human side is often forgotten, and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of both Scott and Brett, who are quality people with a great deal to offer the AFL if they choose to continue in the industry," Chapman said.

"Current circumstances require us to make change to create the clear air required to give the new senior coach the best chance of success, and we owe it to our members and supporters to ensure the club is strong and successful."

Reports surface that Adelaide players have questioned the merit of two media figures in Jason Dunstall and Matthew Pavlich forming part of the committee to conduct an external review of the club.

It has prompted players to consider how much information they divulge throughout interviews in the possibility certain details may be aired through non-Crows parties.

If the players choose to answer questions openly, some will allegedly be critical of assistant coach Scott Camporeale and head of football Brett Burton.

Scott Camporeale won't apply for Adelaide's coaching job but is expected to remain at the club next season as a senior assistant in charge of the midfield.

Speaking on Triple M on Thursday morning, the club's football director Mark Ricciuto said Camporeale's decision not to seek the permanent senior coaching position was based on a desire for work/life balance.

"He's got a young family … and he's got a successful building business on the side as well," Ricciuto said.

"He's got a few things on the go and when you're head coach you're 110 per cent committed, you don't have anything going on to the side and sometimes your family [suffers] if you don't quite get the work/life balance right.

"It's good news if he does want to stay on as senior assistant, and I think we can watch this space over the next few days."

Adelaide interim coach Scott Camporeale says he is enjoying his time at the helm of Adelaide but will wait until the end of the year to decide whether he wants to remain there in 2016.

"It's always a challenge, I guess, being in the hot seat, but I've really enjoyed it - we've had a couple of wins along the way and that always helps," Camporeale said.

"When you become senior coach you're more broad, you have to spread yourself across all 45 players … I definitely have built more stronger relationships with a lot more guys.

"I had a really good mentor in Phil to show me how to do it."

Following the tragic death of Phil Walsh, Scott Camporeale will coach Adelaide for the rest of the 2015 season while John Worsfold has been appointed as the club's director of coaching.

"We had a bit of a discussion this morning and tried to just reflect on Phil's values that he left at this footy club," Camporeale said.

"The vision that Phil had nine months ago when I sat down with him in November was one of really clear messaging as to where we wanted to get to.

"That won't change, the players are really behind that, they want to live and breathe what Phil's put in place."

In a note to AFLCA members, Worsfold said taking on the role was his contribution to help out, and it seemed like the right thing to do under the circumstances.

"He has accepted this request to assist because the Crows' coaching team is relatively inexperienced," AFLCA CEO Mark Brayshaw said.

"In light of his connection to Phil and recent time spent reviewing their program pre-season, he feels well placed to add value.

"John is not interested in the Adelaide senior coaching role or any other for that matter."

Newly appointed Crows assistant coach Scott Camporeale says he had to choose between joining Adelaide and Port Adelaide after coming back to South Australia from Essendon.

"I went through the Port process and then it was a bit in limbo with trade week and Port had to do their referencing on other coaches and that sort of thing. It only really came to a head when Todd [Viney] announced he was going to move and Phil [Harper] gave me a ring," he said.

"Matty Primus is going to do a terrific job and I got a really good impression from him, but the cards just outweighed this way slightly."

Sunday, 17 October 2010
Adelaide has appointed Scott Camporeale to replace Todd Viney as midfield coach at the Crows.

"We first spoke to Scott six weeks ago, however at that stage we didn't have a role available. With Todd Viney's recent decision to leave, we spoke to Scott amongst others and offered him the position," Adelaide general manager of football operations Phil Harper said.

"We believe Scott's experience in coaching the midfield at Essendon will be very helpful in his new role with our club."

Monday, 9 August 2010
Assistant coaches Scott Camporeale and Ashley Prescott will resign from their positions with Essendon at the end of the 2010 season.

"Scott and Ash have been integral to the development of our young group and we are grateful for the role they have played over the past three years," Essendon coach Matthew Knights said.

"We understand that both of the guys are raising young families and it is important that they do what is best for them."

Star Essendon midfielders Jobe Watson and key position player Adam McPhee could both play on Friday night against Collingwood.

"(Watson)'s recovered pretty well, pretty quickly, so we'll give him a test this morning and we'll weigh it up after that," assistant coach Scott Camporeale said.

"(McPhee)'s got a pretty good record against (Travis) Cloke when we've played previously - he trained fully on Tuesday and he'll have another fitness test today as well, just to make sure he's cherry ripe, ready to go."
