Scott Welsh Biography

Sunday, 18 June 2023
Adelaide father-son prospect Tyler Welsh has stolen the show in the under-18 championships, steering South Australia to a comeback win over Vic Country.

The Crows will have to wait to get access to the son of former forward Scott, who is eligible for the draft in 2024, but can already be excited after his five-goal haul in South Australia's 19-point win.

Scott Welsh played 205 games and kicked 363 goals across his career with North Melbourne, Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs, but only reached the 100-game qualification with the Crows, meaning only Adelaide will have access to Tyler as a father-son pick next season.

After a career spanning three AFL clubs Western Bulldog Scott Welsh announced his retirement.

"I think he really enjoyed that role and we certainly thought it was very beneficial to the team," Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade said.

"As a person he was terrific for the club, he fitted in extremely well and was very popular among his teammates.

"He is obviously leaving the club having made a huge impression and he knows he is welcome back at the Western Bulldogs anytime."

Scott Welsh retires from football after giving two years of service to the Western Bulldogs since moving over from Adelaide.

Welsh's retirement provides salary cap room for the Bulldogs to pursue former Swan Barry Hall.

Western Bulldog Scott Welsh has been ruled out of Saturday's clash with Fremantle with an ankle injury that has been troubling him for the last few weeks.
Sunday, 26 July 2009
Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade says forward Scott Welsh failed to read the match-up board at three-quarter time, which gifted St Kilda a crucial goal.

Welsh did not realize he was meant to sit on the interchange bench and started the quarter on the field which resulted in a 50m penalty and goal to Nick Riewoldt.

"I asked him if he'd read the match-up board and he said he didn't," Eade said.

"I said, 'At 30 years of age, you might have learned something'."

Scott Welsh and Brian Lake are considering all options and may decide to fight their one-match bans at the tribunal .

The match review panel handed down the bans after viewing footage from Saturday's match against the Sydney Swans, with Welsh charged with rough conduct against Jared Crouch, and Lake charged with tripping Jarrad Moore.

Scott Welsh will become even more important for the Bulldogs now that Robert Murphy has suffered a hamstring injury.

"It's good to be back. I was happy to contribute to the team and get back and running," Welsh said.

"I was stuffed after last week but the more games I play, the more match fitness I get.

"I'm a bit knackered now but we'll do recovery during the week and just get ready for next week."

Tuesday, 11 December 2007
Scott Welsh is selected by the Western Bulldogs with their 4th pick in the 2007 pre-season draft. Welsh becomes the only player with AFL experience to be selected in the draft.

While avoiding the topic of behavioural issues at his former club, Welsh explained that his departure from the Crows was due primarily to a disagreement between him and the club on contract terms.

"The club offered me a one-year deal and I wanted a one-year deal plus incentives so that if I reached certain goals I was guaranteed a second year. The club wasn't prepared to do that so I moved on."

Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade regarded Welsh as possibly a more versatile player than he has shown so far in his career.

"He can play out of the square and he can play up the ground, as well, so I think his style will fit in well with Brad and other guys," Eade said.

Thursday, 15 November 2007
SCOTT Welsh wants a new career at the Western Bulldogs.

All both parties can do now is sit and wait with fingers crossed, hoping it happens.

But late yesterday, Welsh to Whitten Oval was looming as a formality.

The Adelaide forward will almost certainly slip through to No. 4 in next month's pre-season draft.

The Dogs, who have offered a two-year deal to satisfy Welsh, can only nab the 28-year-old if Richmond, Carlton and Melbourne pass on him.

Tuesday, 13 November 2007
Welsh quits the Crows after failing to come to terms with the club on a new contract. Welsh remained firm on wanting a two-year deal while only being offered a one-year contract by Adelaide.

Crows football operations manager John Reid cites undisclosed behavioural issues as the main reason for the disagreement between the two parties on the length of the contract.

Having left the Crows, Welsh is offered a two-year deal by the Bulldogs who hope to pick up the forward in the pre-season draft.

Saturday, 10 November 2007
TROUBLED forward Scott Welsh is in dispute with Adelaide.

The club's leading goalkicker in 2007, Welsh has reached a "stalemate" on a new contract offer from the Crows and is exploring his options.

"Negotiations on a new contract for Scott have broken down," Crows football operations manager John Reid said.
