Paul Roos' quest to create a successful culture at Melbourne has prompted him to inquire about the services of former Fitzroy teammate Brett Stephens who worked closely with tennis legend Pete Sampras.

"I've never really been in a position to entertain any footy involvement because I've never been in Australia that much, but I'll get along a little bit during the year if I'm around and I may get involved a bit more with what Roosy's doing further down the track," Stephens said.

"He wants to me to go down there any time I'm in town, and even go into the (coach's) box on match days to feel things out and see if there might be a role for me.

"I think I could play a role in development or helping guys who are struggling a bit. I just love helping people get the best out of themselves.

"It's so long ago that I was involved in the football environment, so it might be fun to get back involved, even in a small way, to help Roosy with what he's trying to achieve."
