Andrew Collins Biography

Sunday, 22 July 2012
Andrew Collins plays his best game since becoming a Blue after tallying 21 disposals and 3 goals in a win against the Bulldogs.

"It was enjoyable to contribute tonight and kick a few goals, but I think the most enjoyable thing to come out of the game was playing with our three debutants who all came off the rookie list," Collins said.

"I think ... we showed the club that we've probably found three players."

Andrew Collins admits he was surprised to learn Richmond had offered him up for trade, but says he is delighted with the opportunity that lies ahead of him at Carton.

"They've been very good to me, it's been my home for the last four years, so I leave on good terms there. That's footy I suppose; it throws a few curve balls," Collins said about his old club.

"I'm very excited. I suppose a couple of days ago it came as a bit of a shock, but I couldn't be more positive about the move. I'm really excited about the faith that Carlton has shown in me. I can't wait to get down there and get started."

Carlton midfielder Shaun Grigg has become a Tiger in a straight swap for Andrew Collins.

"We believe Shaun will be a good fit for our side," Richmond's general manager of football, Craig Cameron, said.

"He's got a bit of size for a midfielder, is hard at it, and has a really good engine, which will help us next year with the changes to the interchange system."

Carlton's football manager Steven Icke says the Blues are equally happy with the trade.

"It's pleasing to have a young player who is looking forward to playing for the Carlton Football Club and being a part of our exciting future," Icke said.

"There is a real Carlton connection as not only was Andrew recruited from Bendigo, the home of many Carlton greats, he is also the nephew of Peter Francis, who played in Carlton's 1979 premiership team."
