Eagles coach Andrew McQualter opens the door for Simon Goodwin to join him at West Coast just days after the 2021 premiership coach was sacked by Melbourne.

"I don't know if 'Goody' will move over here, but he's someone that's had a big influence on my career, so if he's willing to help, I'd ask the question," McQualter said.

"I really rate 'Goody'. I spent a year with him last year and he helped me a lot to see the game differently, think about it differently.

"He's a terrific coach, great person, and I've got no doubt he will senior coach a football team again.

"He's got a bit of cash on the side next year to be able to have a nice holiday, but he'll be back in the business before we know it."

Andrew McQualter is named head coach of West Coast after signing a three-year deal with the Eagles.

West Coast remains confident there are talented external coaches available who could fill its senior vacancy as it prepares to widen the search following unsuccessful approaches to several leading candidates.

The Eagles have encountered early challenges with prime targets who have opted out of the process because of a reluctance to relocate young families, including premiership pair Ashley Hansen and Dean Cox.

AFL.com.au also reported that prime target and Essendon assistant Daniel Giansiracusa had also chosen to remain in Victoria for family reasons after being approached by the Eagles, while Melbourne assistant Andrew McQualter was considering whether or not to apply.

Andrew McQualter is expected to join Melbourne as an assistant coach in what would be a swap with new Richmond coach Adem Yze.

Adem Yze is appointed head coach of Richmond.

Yze had been in a battle with caretaker coach Andrew McQualter for the top job.

"We have no doubt that Adem is the right man to lead us into the future," Richmond president John O’Rourke said.

"Adem brings an enormous breadth of experience to the club. He has a deep understanding of the game and what drives on-field success from a strategic and cultural perspective."

Richmond assistant coach Xavier Clarke has emerged as a candidate in the hunt for the senior coaching vacancy at Punt Road.

Caretaker coach Andrew McQualter has also been shortlisted for the role, while AFL.com.au revealed former Richmond captain and current Hawthorn assistant coach Chris Newman is also in the process.
