Brett Ebert Biography

Wednesday, 21 August 2013
Brett Ebert announces his retirement after 166 games for the Power and 240 goals.

"[The club] has been a massive part of my family and my upbringing," Ebert said.

"I grew up loving the club and then to be able to be drafted to the club as a father-son pick was just unbelievable.

"And to end my career as a one-club player through the SANFL and into the AFL is something that I'll always cherish."

Monday, 29 July 2013
Brett Ebert's career hangs in the balance after struggling to return from a groin injury and then tearing his hamstring in the SANFL reserves.

"It has been a pretty frustrating year for Brett but we have just got to keep positive and keep helping as much as we can," Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak said.

"We know he's a vital part of our side when he's up and going. And if we can remain positive and help him as much as we can, hopefully he can get back."

Wednesday, 12 September 2012
Port Adelaide players who were on holiday with John McCarthy question whether they could have prevented his death.

The players, including Brett Ebert, Travis Boak and Hamish Hartlett, were receiving grief counseling.

"I don't want the impression out there that these lads just left one of their mates to roam around," Power CEO Keith Thomas said.

"As soon as they became aware (he was on his own), they made contact with him ... Unfortunately an accident happened."

Experienced forward Brett Ebert has re-signed with Port Adelaide, virtually ensuring he remains a one-club player.

"It's great to be able to sign on and stay here at the Power," Ebert said.

"I've been here nine years now and made some really good friends over the journey. I would love to be a one-club player and help us get back up to where we belong."

Friday, 12 August 2011
Port Adelaide coach Matthew Primus says he wants out-of-form forward Brett Ebert to remain at the club next year.

"He has a contract on the table and we want to have him here next year," Primus said.

"Brett is a victim of his poor form - and our inability to get the ball inside-50 for our forwards. And Brett also had a limited pre-season (after knee surgery). Put those three things together and it explains why Brett has had the season he has."

Wednesday, 12 January 2011
Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert wants to play in the pre-season competition after a successful recovery from LARS surgery.

"The knee is feeling great and it's good to be back in full training because you feel a lot more part of the group. The first NAB Cup game is only a few weeks away and I definitely want to play," Ebert said.

"We've got a few younger guys pushing up, so being a bit older I've got to try and play well and keep them out of the side and also build some confidence."

Tuesday, 24 August 2010
Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert has had LARS surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament in a bid to play in 2011.

"He didn't feel too much pain at the time [of the injury] ... when he got in there, his joint surfaces and other ligaments etc were intact," Power general manager of football operations Peter Rohde said.

"It was just a very straightforward LARS surgery."

Sunday, 22 August 2010
Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert could miss an entire season after injuring his knee in Sunday's win over Melbourne.

"The docs are pretty sure Ebo's done his ACL. Normally, once they do their tests they are 99 per cent sure it's done. He'll probably have it confirmed tomorrow and then we'll discuss surgery and whether he has the LARS or the old-fashioned reconstruction," Power caretaker coach Matthew Primus said.

"Brett was our leading goalkicker [prior to Sunday]...so it's not ideal, but he'll bounce back from it, I'm sure."

Wednesday, 9 December 2009
Talk of being traded has encouraged Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert to work hard this off-season.

"In the past I tended to see the time off as a break and that was it," he said.

"I'd still work hard and do what I had to do, but this time around I wanted to do all the little extra bits and all of the recovery, so I'd have no excuses next year."

Friday, 28 August 2009
Port Adelaide forward Brett Ebert will play in place of Warren Tredrea against North Melbourne after the former skipper pulled out of the side due to a calf complaint.

Ebert was dropped from the side that lost to Brisbane, the second time this season that the forward was dropped and Power assistant coach Adam Kingsley said on radio the 25-year-old needed to "pull his finger out" over the coming pre-season.

"Brett's effort is a little inconsistent, but he's played 100 games. We've sat and watched his video and talked about it, so he understands what he has to improve on," Power coach Mark Williams said.

"Everyone around Australia knows he's a wonderful mark and a great kick at goal. He just needs to get some more balls that are on the ground."
