Jason Laycock Biography

Wednesday, 5 December 2012
Former Essendon ruckman Jason Laycock could make a shock return to the AFL after entering the pre-season draft with the Giants reportedly interested.

"You sit there watching the footy on the TV on the Friday and Saturday nights and you see players running around that you know you can beat or you've beaten in the past and it gets to you a bit," Laycock said.

"So I'm keen for someone to give me a chance and get me over there and give me a crack at it again."

Jason Laycock has surgery on his broken foot meaning his season is over, and possibly his career.

Bomber Jason Laycock will miss at least half of the NAB Cup as he recovers from a calf injury.

"He's quite frustrated, as is everyone on his behalf," coach Matthew Knights said.

"We'd love him out here playing but he's coming back from a calf injury and he'll up his training this week but we won't take him to Subiaco next week."

Essendon ruckman Jason Laycock will not play again in 2009 due to ongoing issues with a foot injury.

"He will be reviewed again in a month to see if a crack in this foot is healing and, if it's not getting better, it is possible there will be further surgery," football opertions manager Paul Hamilton said.

"Obviously it's disapointing for Jason, and it's very disapointing for the club considering our limited ruck resources at the moment."

Essendon has been left with just one geniune ruckman due to the injuries to Tom Bellchambers and Jason Laycock.

Laycock has battled navicular problems since late last year but made his comeback with VFL affiliate the Bendigo Bombers the weekend before last.

"He's training and was playing with discomfort," Essendon coach Matthew Knights said.

"It's not ideal. He hasn't been able to get a run at it, which is frustrating because he would have been perfect to come in."

Youngster Patrick Ryder will be expected to carry Essendon's rucks in their absence.

"We're going to have to be a bit creative and share the workload. It's probably far to say Paddy is going to have to do the majority of the work, but we're going to have to find him support," Knights said.

"We'll have a chat about that this afternoon and try to come up with a plan that will give Paddy enough support and do our best to nullify Adelaide's strengths as well."

Essendon's ruck crisis has deepened, with Matthew Knights confirming that Jason Laycock could be ruled out for the season.
