Andrew Embley Biography

Wednesday, 28 August 2013
Andrew Embley will play his 250th and final game against Adelaide at Patersons Stadium after calling an end to his career.

"I knew that I was such a better player than what I showed in my first three or four years at the club," Embley said.

"I always feel like the easiest thing about AFL footy was getting drafted. The hardest thing was making a career out of it.

"I was drinking a little bit of alcohol at the time.

"I nearly blew a chance in the early days, and I'm very thankful I didn't go to another club or I wasn't de-listed and I was able to make a career at this club, which means a hell of a lot to me."

Tuesday, 20 August 2013
Eagles coach John Worsfold expects Andrew Embley to retire at the end of the season but will the club stalwart to play his 250th game at home in Patersons Stadium.

"I think to have one more game at Patersons Stadium in front of the people who have watched him over the last 14 years would be pretty good," Embley said.

"I think he warrants that sort of respect."

Andrew Embley apologises for dropping his knees into Ben Stratton.

"I'm very apologetic towards Ben Stratton, and also to footy supporters in general," Embley said.

"It's out of character for me, it's not what I'm about, and it's not what people want to see when they go to the football.

"I've always been the kind of person to front up to my mistakes; I made a blue, and I'll cop my penalty on the chin."

West Coast are expecting Andrew Embley and Matt Rosa to feature strongly in 2013 after injuries affected their output in 2012.

"You've got to remember that Embley hardly played last year through his injuries and Rosa missed a fair chunk later in the year," West Coast assistant coach Scott Burns said.

"Those two boys, physically right now, are probably in the best nick they've been in since I've been here."

Friday, 21 September 2012
West Coast's Andrew Embley, Pat McGinnity, Brad Sheppard and Jacob Brennan have signed contract extensions.

"It's nice to have the contract extended for 12 months. At this stage of my career it makes sense to look at it each year.," Embley said about his new one-year deal.

McGinnity, Sheppard and Brennan have all signed on for two years.

"We see all of those players as integral members of our squad," West Coast list and contracts manager Craig Vozzo said.

"Brad Sheppard is a player we rate very highly and anticipate will play a significant role in the improvement we are looking for in pushing inside the top four and enhancing our premiership aspirations.

"He has many of the traits we need to take that next quantum leap and after recent surgery, we look forward to a strong pre-season from him as part of his planned development.

"Pat McGinnity was one of our most consistent players throughout the year and Jacob Brennan had an outstanding debut season."

Sunday, 16 September 2012
Andrew Embley was at a loss to explain his last-term error that cost the Eagles dearly against the Pies during their semi final clash.

With the Eagles leading by 2 points, Embley had the ball on the Eagles' backline and, under relatively little pressure, went for a short pass that went badly wrong, dribbling off his boot along the ground about 15m and resulting in a Collingwood goal which gave the Magpies the lead for good.

"It's just a really bad mistake and a bad turnover ... I've got to live with that now," Embley said on 3AW radio.

"We need to really show a bit of character. Coming off a loss like that, a lot of people will be watching to see how this group responds."

West Coast has re-signed Andrew Embley for a further two years.

"It really is an exciting time for the football club," Embley said.

"I am very keen to be a part of the club's rise back up the premiership table and look forward to helping a lot of the young players on our list enjoy the success we achieved only a couple of years ago.

The leadership group was selected based on votes by the Eagles players. Current vice-captain Andrew Embley was elected not to remain in the leadership group.

Eagles coach John Worsfold said that Embley would still provide leadership to the team while not in an official capacity.

"He possesses certain leadership qualities that we may not have included in the ones that we got the players to vote on," Worsfold said of Embley.

"I'll go through with him the areas in the votes where he was lower in our criteria that he could be higher."
