Daniel Markworth undergoes surgery to repair his dislocated shoulder, which was injured at training last week.

Markworth will be sidelined for an indefinite period, with his return date to be mapped out in more detail once his rehabilitation has progressed.

Friday, 6 March 2015
Daniel Markworth has been dealt yet another cruel injury blow after suffering a dislocated shoulder that will likely end his season.

"You certainly need a bit of luck in this game and unfortunately Dan's been on the wrong side of it for a number of years now," Saints assistant coach Aaron Hamill said.

"He was really starting to show some signs of an AFL footballer so we're really disappointed for him.

"He's waiting to see the surgeon but he can't continually play like that and have it pop out so it's really disappointing for him, and us as a club and a forward line.

"It certainly puts his 2015 season in jeopardy, there's no doubt about that."

Daniel Markworth is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious hamstring injury in the VFL.

The 22-year-old, who is yet to play a senior game after being drafted by the Saints in the second round of the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, won't require surgery.

However, the strain has been assessed as high grade and needs a period of between nine to 10 weeks for recovery, meaning his season is in tatters.

"He is unlikely to return to play this season but we look forward to him being available to start pre-season training in November," Saints head of football Chris Pelchen said.

Daniel Markworth is confident his long-awaited AFL debut isn't too far away after overcoming a knee scare on St Kilda's Colorado training camp last December.

"I believe it will happen. I can't think any other way," Markworth said.

"If I don't think I can play senior footy then I shouldn't really be here. I believe I can play. I'm not playing my best at the moment but it's not far off."

Friday, 20 December 2013
Daniel Markworth has had a minor setback in his recovery from a knee reconstruction, undergoing an arthroscope to remove scar tissue.

The 21-year-old is expected to be out of action for two to three weeks after the minor surgery, which took place after the Saints returned from Colorado last week.

It is the second year running Markworth has injured the knee while on an overseas training venture.

He landed awkwardly on his reconstructed right knee when he came down from taking a mark and tried to turn quickly.

Thursday, 11 April 2013
St Kilda extend Daniel Markworth's contract until the end of 2014 as the young forward recovers from a knee reconstruction suffered during the pre-season.

"They (St Kilda) have been really supportive. Ever since it happened they've said the security is always going to be there so once it's down on paper it is very reassuring," Markworth said.

"It's good now to concentrate on the rehab and hopefully play some good footy in 2014."

Thursday, 20 December 2012
Daniel Markworth is set to miss most of next season after being booked in for a knee reconstruction to repair the anterior cruciate ligament he injured during a skills session at the Saints' training camp in Colorado.
