Matthew Egan is to receive an update, and will possibly receive a definitive prognosis,on the crippling injury that has the 2007 All Australian defender's career halted at 59 games.

Having already been told that he must sit out a second successive season, the 25-year-old is due to visit his surgeon today and is hoping for some clarity beyond 2009.

Matthew Egan has revealed he is confident of defying the odds and making a miraculous comeback to AFL football.
Monday, 11 May 2009
Melbourne's Colin Garland says he is aware of the setbacks of navicular fracture victim Matthew Egan from Geelong and will take his time returning.

"I found out the day of the Egan article, and it showed the diagram of his injury and that's when it hit me," Garland said.

"It was pretty devastating at first. But it made me realise I have to take some time out for this and not try to rush back.

"Obviously, you can see what happens if it doesn't heal properly."

Tuesday, 23 June 2009
Matthew Egan has undergone further surgery on his troublesome foot. The Geelong centre-half back had screws removed from his foot on Monday, meaning he will be on crutches for the next month.

"There was always going to be a time and it was always going to be about now when they went in and took out the screws, because that's what you do," Geelong football manager Neil Balme said.

"Obviously he's had to go to hospital to have it done, and he'll be on crutches for a little while."
